I enlisted in the Delay intry Program on 7 Nov 1975 while still in high school. I was watching the movie 'Stripes' tonight.
Any other Vet out there who went in about the same time?
24 MAY 76 was the day I had a baby at Madigan Army Medical Center at Ft. Lewis.
She's now 30.
Uncle Gene, I looked at your profile. You have to go look at mine: We may be siblings! LOL!
the alternative ain't good.
Not a grandpa yet. Kids are only 8 and 2, so a little time yet.
My dad sure enjoys it though.
My son served in the Navy from about 1996 to 2000, doing the same job as his Dad.
BTW, we are still very happily married 36 years 362 days; but, who's counting.
"IMHO the wives and children make sacrifices for our country, too."
You are AB-SO-LUT-LY right! My family suffered everytime I was deployed, Called out late. Missed many games and holidays with the family and it took a toll.
A grreat woman, my wife. A lesser soul would have left years ago.
Thank you to all military families, we could not do it with out you!!!!

Did we ever croos paths?? If you flew off of an East-Coast carrier in the eighties, I probably had a hand in at least a few of your cat shots, and/or arrested landings. On Ike we used to be the ready deck whenever we were at sea.
So how many night traps do YOU have??
30 years as of 6 June, 1976. Seems like a lifetime ago...
DEP Air Force December 1976, active duty June 1977 right after the movie Star Wars came out. Then the Air Force decided they needed more Computer Operators so after basic at Lackland AFB I went to Sheppard AFB for training and then PCS to Offutt AFB and 3900 CPUSS for the remainder of my tour. Funny how none of these places were on my Dream Sheet.
I was commissioned in June 1974. One screamin', butter-bar Ensign USN convinced that he was Nelson and Halsey rolled into one. I, uh, learned otherwise... BTT.
Thanks, fellow vererans, for your service!
veterans!

I ran for state house of representatives (Kentucky) in 2000. Lost my primary. Had a great time. Was going to run again in 2002 but my wife got a job with the State Department and we began traveling.
I suggest everyone run for office at least once. It is stress full and a great way to meet people who are interested in the same things you are and working to achieve them.
