Clash of Opposites in Marquee Illinois Race (House Race to Succeed Henry Hyde)

ADDISON, Ill. - You could hardly design a more intriguing contrast: man versus woman; a veteran legislator versus a political neophyte; anti-abortion candidate versus abortion rights proponent.

If you live in Chicago’s western suburbs in the Sixth Congressional District you’ll get a chance to choose the winner of this face off. Your choice could decide whether Democrats gain control of the House.

This is a district where President Bush won 53 percent of the vote in 2004.

Now it’s up to veteran state legislator Peter Roskam to keep it a Republican seat in House.

Since 1974, Republican Henry Hyde, best known for his anti-abortion advocacy and his role as Judiciary Committee chairman in impeaching President Clinton in 1998, has represented this district. He’s stepping down at the end of this term.

Hyde has won with average vote of 62 percent in the last four elections.

Tammy Duckworth is a novelty who will lose by 8+ points. She is a inexperienced puppet of the corrupt Chicago Democratic machine. She does not even live in the district and can not even name many of the towns. I respect her military service, but she should have ran as a Republican , not as a liberal hack

"respect her military service, but she should have ran as a Republican , not as a liberal hack"

The problem with that is, despite her honorable military service, she IS a liberal poplitical hack!!!!

I actually met Henry "The Flag has fallen and I can't get it up" Hyde on more than one occassion during my elected service in the IL GOP.

I got the opportunity to talk to him after he cast the deciding vote to allow the Assault Weapons Ban out of his committee. If he had voted no, it would never have made it to the floor of the House.

I asked him to his face why he did it.

He looked me right in the eye and he said: "We took a poll."

After that I never distributed a single piece of Hyde For Congress literature. Not a single one.

He's a fraud. I'm glad the fat f*** is retiring.

I hadn't heard the story about the AW ban. Of all the incredibly stupid, pointless, rights-violating legislation that our dimwit fool leaders have managed to pass in my lifetime, that one p!$$ed me off more than ANY OTHER one. Knowing that Hyde was a key part of that makes me hate him even more (if that's possible).

I used to get just P!$$ED when the media would describe him as a "conservative". If you're Karl Marx, yes, he is.

Oh, and hey, I assume you were one of the good guys. Thanks for your service. Too bad you're not still in there.

Too bad you're not still in there.

You have no idea just how oily Illinois politics is. I got really tired of needing to take long hard hot showers after Township and Central Committee meetings. Some days I damned near scrubbed my skin off.

As I said on another thread the only thing in this world that could make me vote for a Dem was the IL GOP in the Ryan v. Poshard race.

I'm still trying to find some info on this Roskam guy. There doesn't seem to be much out there yet. Hopefully he's the real deal and not a Faux conservative like Hyde.

I know HH is a hero around here to some, but honestly the guy makes me sick. It takes more than just being pro-life to make one a conservative, at least as far as I'm concerned.

In Henrys defense his staff says he's solidly behind Sensenbrenner on the Sentate Immigration bill.
