The Silver City Town Council has adopted a resolution calling for the federal government to form a U.S. Department of Peace.
The council voted 3-1 Tuesday night in favor of the resolution, which asks Congress to establish a Cabinet-level department geared toward peaceful resolution of conflicts around the world.
A supporter of the resolution argued that the council should consider measures that aren't focused strictly on local issues.
''A lot of polls lately show people have lost faith in the upper levels of government,'' Larry Weiss of Silver City said. ''The one government body that's retained trust is the local body
The resolution encourages Sens. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., and Pete Domenici, R-N.M., and Rep. Steve Pearce, R-N.M. whose district includes Silver City to sign on as sponsors of a measure introduced in Congress last year for a Department of Peace.
The resolution says such a department will benefit the community ''by holding peace as an organizing principle for the American society, which will change the tone of society'' and by development programs that will lead to changes in domestic violence and violence with guns, in schools and against minority groups.

Slightly different skill sets, slightly different missions, probably should be a different department.
Since those who refer to themselves as "peace activists" are usually actually not peace activists at all, but socialists or commies, or their followers, I presume that what the city wants established is a department of socialism and communism. I'm series.
Anybody in the world cheeses me off, and they get a few megatons of the "Peace of the Dead."

Evidently these people have been breathing to much of the lead dust produced by those mines.
These people may be serious, so why am I laughing at their total stupidity.
This is a case of small time political hacks with way to much time on their hands.
How embarrassing! I'm glad I don't live in Silver City!! LOL
Ok, do your worst.
Guess who will not be going to the Silver City Rodeo, June 1 - 3?
How about The Department of Disconnected From Reality?
It seems it's not just Silver City, check out the link below. I've never believed the stories of UFOs crashing in NM; but I may have to rethink that since it seems there may even have been return trips that dropped off passengers. Could this be behind the "real" purpose of the Space Port? Here is your NM tourism tax dollars at work, for the life of me I can't figure out how this would attract tourists, or at least the kind we might want to attract:

This is Hugh!!
I believe we have one of those. It's called the State Department.
They do keep the moonbats away from Horseman's Park during the rodeo for sure- if the two groups were to meet it might cause problems with that whole "Peace" thing.
What event/s do you compete in?
Thanks for the link. Did you note it is sponsored by Bill Richardson's NM Tourism Department?
Trying for the moonbat vote as well as the enviro-wackos.
Vey hugh!
Used to haze in my elder years, youth SB, post Air Force, SW. They are supposed to move the HQ of the PRCA to Albuquerque in a couple of years.
My bunch are mostly ropers & barrel racers, but my dad was a roughie.
It is still up in the air whether PRCA is actually moving to NM. President of PRCA & our Governor made a deal and then just the other day the PRCA Board of Directors voted it down, our Gov offered them a sweet deal but I guess Colorado offered them $$$ to stay. Now there is a bidding war between NM & CO over PRCA & the Rodeo Hall of Fame. As of last week they said the PRCA HQ and Hall of Fame are staying in CO. They are supposed to be building a "World Class Equestrian Center" in Albq. whether PRCA moves here or not. We'll see I guess.
I never thought I would see the day when states would fight over PRCA like it was a football team.LOL
looked like a burg to me.
