Speaking to the California Legislature, Mexican President Vicente Fox on Thursday applauded passage of a sweeping immigration reform bill by the U.S. Senate and said his country is willing to share in border control.

"Mexico wants to be part of the solution, not part of the problem," Fox said in a 20-minute speech to a joint session of the state Senate and Assembly, marking his first official visit to California's Capitol in five years.

"We are your partners in security against terrorism," Fox said. "We are your allies in the war on drugs and crime. We are your partners in the drive for economic prosperity. Let us work together, as neighbors, friends and partners."

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger later met privately with Fox for 10 minutes to discuss economic issues, immigration, environmental matters and a potential trade mission, among other topics.

The Republican governor told the Mexican leader that he was prepared to commit National Guard troops to support the work of border guards, but only temporarily, the administration said.

Fox also met privately Thursday with Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez, the Legislature's Latino Caucus and state Sen. Gilbert Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, the leader of efforts to grant driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

Outside the Capitol, a small group of protesters held signs reading, "It's Not Too Late to Save Our State" and "Stop Illegal Immigration Now."

Assembly Republican leader George Plescia, whose caucus is a loud critic of illegal immigration, was rebuffed when he asked that Fox meet separately with a small group of GOP legislators.

"Yes, I'm disappointed," he said Thursday morning. "We have a big voice, and it would have been nice to let him know that there are differing views."

Assemblyman Chuck Devore of Irvine and about a half-dozen other GOP lawmakers boycotted Fox's visit ..

"...applaud a mariachi band..."

That's one big reason to slam the border shut...

Okay, I had to say it on this line. President Fox said...."said his country is willing to share in border control". Isn't that letting the Fox control the chicken coop? ; )

Mexico wants to be part of the solution, not part of the problem

Translation: Mexico isn't part of the problem, Mexico is MOST of the problem, and will remain most of the problem until the USA gives us the solution we want. That being, unrestricted movement by Mexican nationals across the Mexico/US border in either direction, restricted movement by US nationals across the Mexico/US border in either direction, Social Security payments made to Mexican nationals (in US dollars whether they deserve such payments or not) deposited to Mexican banks, and the deliverance of New Mexico, Arizona, California, and the western portion of Texas to Mexico.

There, I think that clears things up.

I can hear Fox telling the people,

"You must hurry and get across the border before they close it".

"Mexico wants to be part of the solution, not part of the problem,"

Lying phoney crook.

Mexico IS the problem.

The U.S. should solve the problem by annexing Mexico.

Want to be Americans and work in America? You got it. You don't have to come HERE, we'll bring America to you.

Of course, you'll have to pay taxes and learn English, but then, you will get rid of Vicente Fox and his "Dons".

Ten minutes is a long time with the 2 speaking broken English. Can you imagine that conversation?

I don't know when it became acceptable for a head-of-state's wife to make official state visits in strapless dresses; but the 1970's roller derby look has got to go. Get some self-tanner for crying out loud.
