uhhh... this is news?

I don't know anyone opposed to Iran generating electricity or doing nuclear research for peaceful purposes (energy, medical, and the like).

The temptation to build WMD by the unscrupulous simply can't be ignored. The world must be safe from dictators and religious fanatics.

Trust the NYT to emphasize the Iraqi Government's "support" for Iran's (civilian) nuclear program, while sticking Iraq's opposition to WMD's at the end of the story. The only difference between this story and what the Iranians will be telling their citizens about this story is that the Iranians may omit the "opposition to WMD" part. Other than that, it captures the Iranian information warfare perspective perfectly.

I doubt ANY Iraqi supports Iran getting 'da bomb'.

Iraq would be a first prime candidate for an Iranian test site, subsequent to Israel of course.

The United States and Europe have insisted that Iran give up its program of nuclear research.

More BS from NYT.

Properly stated, the civilized world via the U.N. are trying to be assured that the government of Iran ARE peaceful in their nuclear endeavors.

Iran is the entity opposing the guarantee that their endeavors are peaceful!

Of course most know that Iran isn't promoting peaceful consideration toward their endeavors for if so, their President wouldn't have stated his fervor in public for the annihilation of the state of Israel.

What the Iraqi government is stating is that it's the right of a sovereign nation to promote their technological advances ONLY!

CLUE TO NYT: The US and some sane represenatitives of the international community are opposed to a nuclear program without inspections and monitoring to indicate peaceful development. Highly enriched uranium-- which is not necessary to generate electricity-- is a problem. It is a self evident problem to everyone except grand deceivers like the NYT.

It might be worth noting that Iran's president has expressed intentions to wipe one of its neighbors off the map. For some "extremists" this is construed as a hostile motive in global affairs.
