However, I find it interesting that the Israeli, Prof. Segev, is described in the final paragraph as a "peace militant." Sheesh! What does he expect? More's the pity for the Belgians. Israel is, by this measure of scientific papers and citations per capita, the second or third most scientifically productive country in the world. Belgium wasn't even worth measuring.

Actually the question whether the US should join Britain against Germany as well as take p arms against Japan who attacked the US was a very sensitive and tricky question. However, it was solved by ---- Adolf Hitler who declared war on the US a few days after Pearl Harbor.

The Congress declared war on Japan (almost unanimous) on the 8 December 1941. On the 11th December Germany declared war on the USA.
