Democrats gain on slumping Schwarzenegger, poll says
Contra Costa Times ^ | May 25, 2006 | Steven Harmon

Schwarzenegger's job approval ratings dropped to 36 percent among 2,000 adults questioned in a survey by the Public Policy Institute of California. Among 986 likely voters, his approval rating was at 42 percent, down from 46 percent a month ago.

Both Democratic candidates matched up evenly with Schwarzenegger in head-to-head hypothetical pairings, though nearly a quarter of those polled remain undecided. Angelides was tied with the governor at 38 percent, while Westly was tied at 36 percent.

With 12 days to go before the primary, Angelides pulled slightly ahead of Westly -- 35 percent to 32 percent -- after being stuck behind him for weeks.

That would be equivalent to Castro vs Lenin.

Guv (Schwarzenegger -- CA) would veto bill mandating inclusion of gays in textbooks

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1638572/posts

Do you think either Angelides or Westly would have vetoed that bill???

WESTLY:

In the “Stand” spot, Westly says, “I’m Steve Westly – before I ask for your vote, I owe it to you to tell you where I stand. I’m strongly pro-choice and I believe protecting our environment is fundamental. As governor, I’ll make education my top priority.” Then the announcer adds, “Steve Westly. Require big corporations to provide adequate health insurance, expand the Healthy Families Program, incentives for hybrid vehicles and solar energy, stop any new offshore drilling.”

=====

ANGELIDES:
Angelides calls himself a champion of "progressive values." As state treasurer, he has pushed public pension funds to dump tobacco stocks, invest in urban renewal projects and pressure corporations into cleaning up the environment. A close ally of labor, he also supports abortion rights, gay marriage, gun control and driver's licenses for illegal immigrants.

If he makes it into a general-election race, his call for increasing taxes could pose problems; Schwarzenegger has been steadfast in opposing higher taxes.

The Dems would never veto mandated gay education like Arnold is.

...wow, do you think the Dems will carry a blue state? You know things are bad for your side when you're excited that you might win back your home turf...

mexifornia is so lost, so meaningless at this point, reading stories about it is like reading stories about some country in europe. mexifornia is the handicap America has to over come to survive. Who is or who is not the governor means nothing. The same goes for my state, new york, massachusetts and illinois.

If only the Founders had made it possible to vote out states that no longer share any ideals with the rest of the USA. CA would be the first to be voted off the island, with all the the Northeastern States a close second, and WA and OR third. Why should the rest of the nation go down the tubes because illegals and leftists vote enemies of the Constitution into office? That is just not right.

I'm not a Californian (by the Grace of God) but it really wouldn't bother me at all if that RINO goes down to defeat. What does he bring to the table after all?

The hyperbole here is just beyond the pale. California has become one of the most liberal states. Just like NY, the only statewide elected GOPer would have to be RINO/lib on social policies.

A conservative stands no chance

The reason for Arnold's drop is that the 2 Democratic have been all over TV the last few weeks. They have been not only bashing each other but Arnold as well. Arnold has done no ads because he does not have to at this stage of the race.

The problem is, that Arnold didn't start advertising early in support of the Special Election propositions, while the unions spent some $150 million and they scared the people, so by the time Arnold started to advertise, people's minds were already made up.

I hope it won't happen now.
