SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco attorney who sued the state on behalf of high school seniors who failed the exit exam that is required to earn a diploma filed an emergency request today for an expedited hearing with the California Court of Appeal.

On Wednesday, the state's Superior Court voted to stay the order from a lower court that would allow all members of the Class of 2006 to graduate, regardless of whether they had passed the controversial exam. The Superior Court also sent the matter to the Court of Appeal.

Arturo Gonzalez, the attorney who sued the state over the issue, requested a hearing for next week and said he would file the plaintiffs' opening brief on Friday in order to expedite the process.

Next, they'll have to allow anyone to practice law if they have finished law school, regardless of whether they have passed the State Bar Exam.

That actually makes more sense. If a law school is state accredited, then one should be minimally qualified. Wisconsin does this without terrible consequence.

Huh?

You live in Wisconsin, and think you have a worse problem there?

I don't see how passing a bar exam affects any of those things, except for "dumb", in a very peripheral way having little to do with practical legal competence.

I don't know a whole lot about this "controversial exam".....Does it entail graduates be able to speak english, be able to read, be able to do basic math like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division? If so, well those dirty bastidges! How dare they require such enormous learning and tasks from brilliant and selfdetermined students such as these!

I thought you had to wait your turn during a lawsuit and couldn't expect to jump in front of others. Oh wait this isn't the Duke case. Nevermind.
