UK: Talk Of Killing Dancers
Sky News ^ | May 25, 2006 | Staff

Members of an alleged British terror cell talked of blowing up London's famous Ministry of Sound nightclub, the Old Bailey has been told.

The jury heard one defendant, Jawad Akbar, said they would not be blamed for killing "those slags dancing around".

In secret recordings made by security surveillance teams, Akbar and Omar Khyam, another member of the alleged al Qaeda-linked cell, appear to discuss possible targets.

Akbar says the central London venue was a soft target for a terror attack, according to the prosecution.

Akbar: "What about easy stuff where you don't need no experience and nothing and you could get a job.

"Yeah, like for example the biggest nightclub in central London where no-one can even turn round and say 'oh they were innocent' those slags dancing around?

"If you went for the social structure where every Tom, Dick and Harry goes on a Saturday night, yeah, that would be crazy."

Khyam: "If you get a job in a bar, yeah, or a club, say the Ministry of Sound, what are you planning to do there then?"

Akbar: "Blow the whole thing up."

Khyam: "That's what I'm saying."

The recording played to the jury was said by the prosecution to have been made at Akbar's then home in Uxbridge, west London, on Sunday February 22, 2004.

Akbar asks Khyam: "Bruv, you don't think this place is bugged, do you?"

Khyam: "No, I don't think it's bugged Bruv."

Khyam, 24, his brother Shujah Mahmood, 19, Waheed Mahmood, 34, and Akbar, 22, all from Crawley, West Sussex, Salahuddin Amin, 31, from Luton, Beds, Anthony Garcia, 23, of Ilford, east London, and Nabeel Hussain, 21, of Horley, Surrey, deny conspiring to cause explosions likely to endanger life between January 1, 2003 and March 31, 2004.

Khyam, Garcia and Hussain also deny a charge under the Terrorism Act of possessing 600kg (1,300lb) of ammonium nitrate fertiliser for terrorism.

Khyam and Shujah Mahmood further deny possessing aluminium powder for terrorism.

Sorry, I'm still laughing too hard at the bit I highlighted in red to make too much of a comment.

It helps that our enemies are idiots.

The tragedy is that there are those who do not believe we or anyone should be listening.

Idiots or not, these are monsters. You'd think that the Brits would wake up, but unfortunately, Londonistan will require another jolt before waking up. I never would have thought the US would need another jolt after 9/11, but it seems that we do too.

Is that because one has to be an idiot to commit the crime, or just get caught?

"...says he has yet to meet an intelligent criminal."

That may be, but the criminals still do a lot of damage.

I imagine that these guys must have some gray matter as they were able to obtain and stash 1300 lbs of fertilizer. They sound like idiots because they're caught on tape talking about being bugged. Sounds like a certain politician of recent days.

Glad the LE somehow had suspicions of these guys and caught them.

SO they wanted to blow up a nightclub but didn't think anyone would blame the ROP?

Who else would do something like that?
