This is a portion of speech he wrote that I drew my tag line out of....
" "At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide. "

Hastert's quick reaction to this sure gives the impression of guilt. It sure doesn't.

Cover up for a crook of Jefferson's stature makes me think others have things to hide.It amazes me that you can torture logic with such ease.

Dennis you're proving, CONGRESS IS ABOVE THE LAW...oh well we already knew that.

Separation of Powers arguments are totally misplaced here. Nothing about sequestering evidence of a crime in your Congressional office has anything to do with the official duties and powers of the congress vis-a-vis the official duties and powers of the executive branch.

"This thread looks a lot like DU."
Why on earth would that be?

Apparently Dennis has gone completely over the edge. Does he seriously believe that someone at Justice thought long and hard about how to punish him for being a jerk. And then convinced his or her superior to go along with it? It is probably time for our elected official to go home more often and see what reality is like

The reaction of Congress to the FBI executing a search warrant on William Jefferson is appalling and frightening. The search warrant was issued by a member of the judicial branch, so obviously there was no violation of the separation of powers. Congress displayed an arrogant, imperious attitude, which should have remained an historical characteristic of the 1934 Reichstag.

Perhaps his biggest fear is Justice knocking at his door.

I feel as you do but voting for someone on a statewide or federal level not in either the Republican or Democrat Party is a wasted vote and in most cases it helps the Democrats and I trust them less than the Republicans.
I hate to say this for fear of offending some but Americans do not keep up with what is going on and do not get involved enough. They listen to too many campaign ads and depend on too many others to help them. The Democrats could not win on a state or federal level in my opinion if it were not for the uneducated, illegals and dead people.
It is like voting for the lesser of two evils instead of voting for someone who would do a good job. We need to find a way to do away with the party system and go with individuals and categorize them conservative, moderate or liberal. That way we could have more choices and dilute the strength of the Democrats and Republicans.

I have never seen this country in such disarray politically! It's time both sides agree on third parties for both sides and vote every last one of them out of office. Haster goes to bat for Jefferson (who's seen taking bribes), Bush just sealed the Jefferson documents for no reason at all, Hastert is - or isn't under investigation right now, DeLay is rightfully-or most likely unrightfully indicted, Clinton lied under oath, Pelosi lies everyday, Bush has sold out his base, and the lists go on-and-on! They are all corrupt and it's time all of them leave office for the good of the country!
Rant over (at least I didn't make it a separate thread).....back to reality; it's time both sides start thinking of a third party.
