Even if there's a legitimate reason to seal this, why would it require 45 days? Sounds to me like they'll do some slow-leaking of whatever information is in the documents instead of having it all revealed at once.

The Bush White House has moved from tone deaf to stone cold deaf. So be it.

Is that because Hastert is not entirely clean?
I can think of no explanation other than that. I'd like to believe there is a good one, so if anyone has some idea, please post it.

No he's not. Wonder what docs Jefferson had to blackmail other congress men/women? It's the Congressional version of MAD.
And another bloody good reason why CHARACTER COUNTS.

Best response yet!
I'm guessing someone in the Administration thinks that Hastart has a point on violation of seperation of powers, though I cannot see how.

The House wasn't notified because any critical documents would have been shredded.
I'm surprised and disappointed at Hastert's belligerence. The next time the House issues a subpoena for a White House document, Bush would be right to shove this argument back in Hastert's face.

I just don't see why the Pres is involved in this - Could it be the "New-Tone" nice guy routine that's cost him so much already??

Ok, I'd buy that as a possibility. But if the docs are sensitive, wouldn't they be protected by other laws?

The Pubbies are aiding and abetting this.I would go further than that -- the Dems (that crook Jefferson included) have nothing to do with this. This is purely Congressional Repubs vs. Executive Repubs.

DOJ falls under the executive, this might be the legitimate reason the President can do this.

Democrats : "We question the timing of this action. By delaying the release of these documents for 45 days, Mr. Bush is clearly trying to wait until closer to the fall elections in the hope that this story will at that time have a greater impact on the elections results. We deplore this overt attempt to manipulate the American electorate."
