Sorry Mrs. Maharis, they don't care about you. All they care about are those poor citizens of Mexico.
Would be an interesting movie, it sounds like ... not beholding to either side. But it would show the flaws of our current system ... the guilty are the employers and the politicians that ignore the employers of the illegals.
"Ms. Maharis grabbed her camera and filmed the scene."
How does one film in the dark?

Why in the world would she open her door in the first place? Then she picked up a camera instead of a shotgun, and that makes no sense to me. She was so scared that she was shaking with fear, and yet, she opened the door anyway. I don't understand it. I live out in the country too, and whenever I hear something weird, I grab my shotgun, and look out my window before opening the door. If I can't determine what's going on, I don't open the door.

COCHISE COUNTY , USA :
CRIES FROM THE BORDER
A powerful and persuasive film documenting the destructive effects upon one community in Arizona by the assault of the illegal alien invasion swamping America's southwestern frontier.
Cochise County, USA: Cries From the Border is a labor of love. Director and local resident Mercedes Maharis obviously feels passionate about this compelling and contentious subject, and it comes across in her nonetheless objective camera's eye upon our broken border. From property damage to medical issues to border patrols to deportation, Maharis touches upon one critical issue after another, leaving no affected area unexamined. At just over an hour, Cochise County, USA: Cries From the Border is a feisty film that shows with graphic and gritty focus how an American community is being literally destroyed by the harsh realities of uncontrolled illegal immigration. (Reviewed by Popsyndicate.com)
The issue of illegal migrants and all the societal disordering that accompanies their unlawful entry into the U.S. is a huge problem facing our nation today. Ricocheting around Congress right now are various bills with vastly different ideas on how to deal with the problem.
Its about time someone took the initiative to give American citizens who live along the border with Mexico an opportunity to tell their side of the story. Kudos to Mercedes Maharis for her gutsy presentation of the truth. Chris Simcox, President, Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.

I remember when she first put this out. I wonder if she got enough screnings to get her qualified for the Academy Award for Best Documentary?
Haven't seen it yet, but it's available through our Hastings bookstore, and may also be available from Amazon.com.
Friends of mine who have seen it say it is a very accurate depiction of what we are going through down here.
"We came here to live our retirement in peace, and if we can't we'll have to leave."
But the nation's trauma worries her more, and she's hard-pressed to understand how George Bush's immigration plan will do anything to help American citizens on the border.
"This is uncivilized.... "
