Sex crimes in Oklahoma plummet. You really think child rapists go out and rape children because they're not afraid of spending their life in a maximum security prison? Do you have any idea what happens to child rapists in maximum security prisons? Sorry, I think the idea that this will have any deterrant effect to be kind of far fetched. It seems like lame political grandstanding. It's also going to cost Oklahoma a lot of money in legal fees, as it violates clear Supreme Court precedent.

While I do see the logic in part of your arguement, let's be honest here. Child rapists don't get life in prison. They wind up back on the streets and repeat offend. When they do, I'd like to see them terminated.

It will, at the very least, deter those convicted and punished for their second offense. Not great, but better than catch and release for third-time losers.
