It is getting down to the wire now...
QUESTIONS...
1. Is the Senate going to pass an Immigration Bill?
2. How big of a difference is there between the House and Senate versions?
3. If it passes will the conferees be able to settle the differences?
If you are following the immigration debate.. its time to start your VCR's ...
Irreconcilable. .....hopefully.
BORDER SECURITY FIRST... THEN ENFORCEMENT... THEN whatever else LAST..
1. Yes
2. As Lyndon Johnson described the difference between the House and Senate: the difference between chicken salad and chicken $hit!
3. No, they will not be able to reconcile the two. In my opinion, the whole thing will die until (to quote the Constitution) "an election of Representatives shall have intervened"
ping
LOL... very articulate..
Obviously. My point was that the gulf is so wide between the two that I doubt they can reconcile, and that if any compromise does happen it would probably be the House giving up more ground.
Can you (or anyone else) do us all a favor and outline some of the MAJOR differences between the two bills..
Thanks
I trust the House leaders to fight for the security measures included in their bill. Blunt, Hastert and Boehner did a good job of making a bill focused on enforcement. Lets hope they can get the Senate to see the light.
The Senate bill would construct 370 miles of fencing with 500 miles of vehicle barriers, create a new guest worker program, and open the door to eventual citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants.
The House bill would criminalize all immigrants in the country illegally, and contains no provisions for a new guest worker program.
David, here is a link to about everything you'd want to know about the bills, amendments and voting records:

I agree
THANKS !!
Ha! That's great, it sounds like something LBJ would have said.
The main difference is that the Senate version gives tens of millions of lawbreakers amnesty, which is of course completely unacceptable.
I believe this is the LAST ammedment.. then we go to final passage am I correct?
"In my opinion, the whole thing will die until (to quote the Constitution) "an election of Representatives shall have intervened"
Or until La Revolucion, begins.
Enough with the quorum calls!!!.. lets get this show started...
