NEW DELHI, MAY 20 The VHP has offered to team up with Pope Benedict XVI to fight their common adversary of Islamic terrorism. VHP president Ashok Singhal made this offer to the Pope today, two days after the latter expressed serious reservations about moves to ban conversions in certain parts of India. The entire Sangh Parivar, particularly VHP, would have normally unleashed a no-holds-barred campaign against the Pope. However, Singhal, by courting the Pope, has obviously made a major tactical turn.
The VHP chief said: Christians and Hindus are both facing the same historical threat of jihad. Drawing a parallel between Christian and Hindu history, he equated the destruction of Kashi, Ayodhya, Somnath temples to the terrorist attacks on WTC, London and Madrid. Then comes the proposition: Instead of fighting each other, let us fight jihad. The new tactical position in place, Singhal did affirm his basic stand: Pope should declare that Church will not convert a single Hindu. He also turned around to ask if the Pope would allow Christians in Vatican to convert. Meanwhile, BJP spoke-sman Prakash Javadekar came out with a rather mild response today: The Popes remarks are not relevant to India, there is more freedom here than in many countries. State laws are not against conversion by conviction, but if people convert en masse, motives have to be there.

Hmm, he should read the Book of Acts.
God wants his word revealed to the Hindus, just like he wants it revealed to the Muslims. No deal.
bump
Too bad.
Ping!
Of course. Catholics are free to convert anywhere at any time. The Church only opposes forced conversion.
Regarding the "teaming up" offer, this offer should have been made behind closed doors.
"Too bad."
I didn't get it, can you elaborate?
God revealed his word to the Hindus, 15,000 years before he decided to reveal it to the Christians and Muslims (maybe not to the Muslims).
Too bad you are not in favour of an alliance.
"God revealed his word to the Hindus, 15,000 years before he decided to reveal it to the Christians "
Then they shouldn't feel so threatened by Christianity.
15,000 years, I think I would like to read a little about that, what source gives that evidence?
TYhe hindus have had the word of God revealed to them for thousands of years. You just can't read it! God manifests in myriads of ways.
I think that it would be an excellent strategy, for what is "tolerance" except the uniting of good people who prefer peace against those who prefer violence.
Sounds good.
Pope should declare that Church will not convert a single Hindu.
Get real guys.
Christians are ordered to help save the souls of everyone, not to make deals with the leadership of organizations that would continue peoples spiritual oppression.
Glad to hear that the Catholic Church has changed it's position on forced conversion.
LOL!
"not to make deals with the leadership of organizations that would continue peoples spiritual oppression."
Sounds like you have confused Hindus for Muslims.

There is none, of course.
There is evidence that Vedic Sanskrit texts may date back as early as 1500 BC, but not the slightest shred of evidence that they date back 15 millenia.
The one thing we know for a fact is that a substantial amount of the Vedas - Hindu sacred texts - were written before 500 BC.
Which we can also say about the Hebrew Scriptures.
