"I have secured over $20 billion in tax credits and federal funds for my district after Hurricane Katrina. I authored the GO ZONE Act, the Katrina Public Finance Act, and the Katrina Tax Relief Act, along with my colleague Jim McCrery, which all resulted in massive tax relief for families, seniors, government agencies and businesses in the hurricane-affected region."

. . . therefore, I am entitled to a little entitlement without everybody making such a fuss over it.

We all saw what happened to Marion Berry.
Oh, that's right, he was re-elected.
Geesh.

It is not a Constitutional violation. Art 1 Sec 6 says there is no such protection for a Felony. Game, Set, Match.

"Lady, if I pull any tighter you're gonna have a gotee!"

"And if you don't pull any tighter you'll be out of a job... so SHUT UP AND PULL, DAMN IT!"

Culture of corruption!
Culture of corruption!

I think both parties should take that quote out of their talking points. Apparently they are all above the law. No wonder they won't do what the people say!

Pelosi sure knows how to write a curt letter!

I'm liking Pelosi a lot more than Hastert right now, and I've never had even a momentary positive thought about Pelosi before. Shouldn't the RNC be a tad worried about that?

Good point, but the Dems have been using that quote like a cudgel recently.

We should throw it right back at 'em.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you William Jefferson, Democrat, Louisiana, the gift that keeps on giving. A man who has brought Nancy Pelosi's "Culture of Corruption" train to a screeching halt. A man who will never ever go away, but instead, just keep going and going like the energizer bunny. Here is to you William Jefferson, Democrat, Louisiana, so kick back reach into your magic freezer and pull out a cold one (no, not a frozen Benjamin) and enjoy, you my fine friend have earned it.

Just a thought, but could it be that Hastret and the other Republicans are jumping so vigorously to Jefferson's defense, ok, Jefferson's office's defense, to keep this whole matter in the press? Regardless, that is just what it is doing.

"We think those materials ought to be returned," Hastert said, adding that the FBI agents involved "ought to be frozen out of that (case) just for the sake of the constitutional aspects of it."
Now that's funny! I read that the agents involved in the "raid" weren't the ones working on the case because they didn't want the appearance of wrongdoing. They brought in agents who had not been working on the case to search his office.
If I can find it again I'll link it.

Is Rockefeller next?

It took her 6 words to start lying In the interest of upholding the high ethical standard of the House Democratic Caucus

You got it. Anyone believes that she was serious is a bigger fool then I can imagine. She probably send him another note after his refusal that said I was only kidding anyway

From CNN.com - But after her request was quickly shot down -- and Jefferson alluded to discrimination -- Pelosi, D-California, crossed the aisle to join the Republican Speaker of the House in condemning the Justice Department for how it handled a search of Jefferson's congressional office.

I've always assumed that somewhere, still, is a Fourth and Fifth ammendment, even if Capitol Hill seems to want to dispense of it for the peons and peasants. On the surface, seems to me, should require a warrant of some sort. Maybe a Freeper lawyer can detail.

In the end, his defense is yours and mine. SOmebody, somewhere, in any event, should require a warrant first. But,again, my point, is that it also is BRILLIANT politics by Denny Hastert.
