AUSTIN Gov. Rick Perry has launched a statewide campaign ad, touting property tax cuts accomplished during the special session that ended last week. The 30-second ad, shot by Weeks & Co., will play in major markets for an undetermined period. Text: (Mr. Perry, standing in front of a frame house with a Texas flag) "A $15 billion property tax cut and more money for schools. We kept our promise to you. The average homeowner will receive a $2,000 tax cut. Every teacher will receive a well-deserved pay raise. We closed corporate loopholes and created new protections to keep taxes low. And we're protecting our job climate the best in the nation. Lower property taxes, higher teacher salaries and the largest tax cut in history. That's good for Texas." What the ad doesn't say: To offset lost revenue from the tax cut, the plan also includes the largest tax increase in Texas history. A new business tax will add 200,000 more taxpayers and, along with cigarette and used-car sales taxes, the plan will raise $4.1 billion a year. Still, the property tax cut is underfunded, leaving a $5 billion annual hole in the state budget. A state surplus will pay for the shortage the first year, and lawmakers promise economic growth will make up the difference in future years. If not, another tax hike could be necessary.

A new business tax that will be passed on to consumers. More taxes.
Well the lobbiest got their bill passed, but lets see what shakes out. I heard from a reliable source the Staryhorn is going to run to the right of Perry on border control, property taxes, and against this new tax. She reportedly already has an add campaign ready just waiting for the full details to shake out.
She has over 1.5 million.
Yes she is a total crazy wack jab. But she can play lucide on TV. Keep in mind Perry in the latest poll only gets about 41%, She gets 20% and Kinky get 16%. One possible way this goes down is Perry loses 5% of his and the votes that are already protesting with Kinky switch to her. It is a long shot now but anything can happen. IF she can get to 25% to 30% Perry needs to worry.
My point is this, in a 4 way race where the Gov. only has about 2 out of 5 votes anything can happen. What will tell is when this fully comes out, the damage control is already starting. Perry and Dewhurst are both trying to shore up support. I also heard that donations are down and dropping to Perry and Dewhurst over the past few months.
And that is their problem. If many try to run on their record in the past year and a few months they will turn off voters.
Weekend before last my family had a Mother's Day party/bbq, the start of our families summer beer and BBQ party season. It got to talk to 10 or so male members of my family in the back yard, the conversation truned to politics. Not one plans to vote for Perry or Dewhurst. Some will not vote, some for Kinky and one (My brother, I am sorry to say) will vote for Strayhorn. We all live in or around Deer Park TX.
I'm sorry, but my property tax went UP this year. The past appraisal for my lot have been $14,000 for the past 10+ years. This year, it jumped 150% to $37,500. Basically, every lot (vacant or with improvements) in our part of Travis county went up 150%.
My appraisal went up as well. Peery's so called tax cut has already had 1/2 of it eaten up.
It boils down to a 2 way between Strayhorn and Perry. Kinky talks the talk, but he is quite liberal. For instance he wants to make declawing cats a CRAIMINAL OFFENSE! He's for gay marriage (they should be able to be as miserable as the rest of us). The people I know who know him (I knnow a couple) say he's an ill-tempered nutcase. He's a non politician populist, but his running buddies are New York limosine liberals. Be afraid of Kinky. Be very afraid.
That is the only bright side to this, no matter who wins it will be fun to watch.
If you live in Travis County, here is a link for your appraisal.
