Hastert has spent most of leadership career absent. (IMO)

If, God forbid, Pelosi ever became Speaker then I think she'd go down in history as one of the weakest and most ineffective Speakers ever. I just don't see where she commands the respect or obedience of the Democrat rank-and-file.

Actually Hastert has managed the narrow House majority fairly well. He's not aspiring to anything else in politics and hasn't groomed himself for being a media hog like many in the Senate. I think he actually understands what his job entails and does it very well. He just lacks an ego like Joe Biden, and that's fine with me.
To: Wally_Kalbacken
Maybe you haven't heard Hastert's latest comments about the FBI raid on Congressman William Jefferson's office. Outrageous!

I agree.
Pelosi is an unhinged freak. I don't make a habit of commenting on people's appearance, (especially when their behavior provides such a target-rich environment) but dang, that woman is lifted so tight she probably sleeps with her eyes open. Psychologically it says she cannot deal with reality, she has to create an artificial reality that suits her perceptions.

And yet, she seems to have better control of her fellow Dims than Hastert or Frist seem to have of the Reps.
Scary either way.

We're supposed to choke not only at "Speaker Pelosi" but also at "Bush impeachment." But what do conservatives owe Bush? Thanks for signing CFR? His support for non-activist lower court nominees? Harriet Meyers until he was bludgeoned into doing the right thing? Immigration reform leadership?
I say let the Dems have the House, they can't do all that much harm with it and maybe losing it will get the GOP's attention. And if the Dems want to make Cheney/Rice President and VP, why not?

And yet, she seems to have better control of her fellow Dims than Hastert or Frist seem to have of the Reps. When all you have to do is obstruct then it's easy to make it look like everyone is under control. As Gingrich found out it's easier to toss bombs than to govern. I don't think she has what it takes to do that.

It is something the SCOTUS will have to address. The Judicial Branch policing the Legislative Branch by order of the Executive Branch.
