SAN DIEGO ---- Immigration agents arrested 29 foreign nationals today who are employed by a Lakeside business that provides construction workers to the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, authorities said.
The arrests of 28 Mexicans and one Honduran stemmed from a continuing illegal immigration audit of the Oceanside military base, but authorities said it wasn't known whether any of them had ever worked at Camp Pendleton.
"What we have been able to piece together is that none of these 29 have been working recently on the base," said Michael Unzueta, special agent in charge of the San Diego regional U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency.
Lauren Mack, spokeswoman for the immigration agency, said federal agents have arrested 98 employees out of 94 companies reviewed since the work site audit started late last year at Camp Pendleton.
The review is part of a national effort targeting illegal workers with access to places that might be vulnerable to terrorist attacks. In addition to military bases, they include nuclear plants, airports and seaports.
Officials said seven of the 29 Standard Drywall Inc. employees arrested today have criminal records that include convictions for narcotics and firearms violations.

WHEN IS THIS MADNESS GOING TO STOP?
25% have criminal records
Call me naive, but is it customary to have illegal aliens on bases?
We all knew about private businesses who hire illegals.
There is no excuse for this from those who salary we pay.
Since the govt won't enforce the laws, you'd think that they had time to police themselves for enemies foreign and domestic.
PC and affirmative action ensures that there are higher level infiltrations of one kind or another in the govt and private-sector.
They don't need to be construction workers to get on base. When I was in boot camp in 1980 we almost blew one up with a Claymore mine. I bet that was some wake up call just after sunrise! Our Drill Instructors chased him for while but lost him. We were always warned to stop shooting if we saw one passing through one of the shooting ranges.
According to some, Area 51 usually does.
What a disgrace.

The immigration authorities ought to be well rested, ever since 1986!!
Now mind you, Bush could have ordered this when he took office, but certainly Sept. 12, 2001.
But better late than never. And just in time for the push towards "comprehensive" immigration overhaul.
We need to adopt Mexico's immigration policies. They don't put up with illegal aliens. They either shoot them or imprison them and deport them, after they pay a big fine.

Just doing the jobs that Americans won't do.
