seek the implementation of the Church's Social Principles through Capitol Hill advocacy work...

HE'S A LOBBYIST!

Jim Winkler has served for four years as the General Secretary of the General Board of Church & Society (GBCS), the international public policy and social justice agency of The United Methodist Church. As the chief executive of the board, Winkler heads up a staff of 26 who seek the implementation of the Church's Social Principles through Capitol Hill advocacy work, education, and communications. The board carries out a wide-ranging ministry of peace and justice throughout the world with offices in Washington, DC and New York City.

My mom does. I sent her the link and am eagerly awaiting her reply. As for me, I kind of lost interest in the church when I found out there is a pastor who is openly in a lesbian relationship.

The United Methodist Church's chief social-issues spokesman, the Rev. Jim Winkler's sheep suit is wearing thin.

Say what? The leader of the third largest denomination actually believes that if amerika would only have ratified Kyoto, legalized gay marriage and force amerikan taxpayers to fund abortion on demand that Osama bin Laden wouldn't have had his goons slam those planes into those buildings and declare war on "The Great Satan"? Good Lord! And Methodists like to joke about Southern Baptists being dumb-as-a-stump, snake-handling hicks?

These are very disturbing times. My brother-in-law is a minister of a Bible Church north of Austin, TX. The minister from the church he branched out from in Cedar Park, TX has been extremely successful because of their wonderful minister, Tim.

Turns out that Tim was just diagnosed with cancer of the tongue. Everyone who knows him is in shock and worried sick. My sister really thinks (and I do too) that the devil (evil) is at work and trying his best to silence Tim because he has been so very successful at spreading the Lord's word. There is no other explanation in our minds and everyone needs to be aware that the evil doers are alive and well, plotting and planning every second of the day. Keep praying to our Lord....

A lost soul who will pay dearly for the wickedness of leading people astray. Mr. Winkler is nothing more than an apostate.

..."War is incompatible with the teachings and example of Christ," ...

I guess this Methodist Re'rend is putting on the armor of God and is now fighting the good fight because he knows when Jesus commands, just like the Centurion, the underlings obey. I'm sure he looks forward to the day when he kneels in the company of the Archangel Michael, the commander of God's heavenly army.

The UMC has a "Chief Social Issues Spokesman"?

Now, see, what you've gone and done? You go and give some overinflated ego a plaque with an invented title on it and the most idiotic things commence to emanate from his, uh, mouth.

"Nothing Christian" in Bush's response to 9/11?

Nothing Christian in Jim Winkler, either, I'd surmise.

The Methodist church's official Social Principles declare, "War is incompatible with the teachings and example of Christ," and reject war "as an instrument of national foreign policy."

Well, THERE'S a perfectly serviceable reason NOT to be a Methodist.

For the record:
The ENTIRE context of Scripture, and, by extension, all human existence, is WAR; an epic spiritual conflict waged between Heaven and Hell with the very hearts and souls of men as the object of victory.

These miserable freaks are REALLY going to have a conniption when Revelation 19 eventuates upon them.

11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.

12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself.

13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.

15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.
-- Revelation 19:11-15 NASB

Um, Reverend.... Jesus did not come to bring peace to the Earth; to the contrary. Read the Gospel, Sir.

With people like this you have to give them chapter and verse. Edition/version and the text are also a good idea. Otherwise they'll either not look for it, or find it if they do.

Having been a Deacon some ten years ago, I have not been in a Methodist Church in 7 years and describe myself as not terribly religious anymore. Such are my feelings toward the United Methodist Church and many others.

When did the Methodists become Quakers? Do they reject any war as an unjust war, including WWII?
