News said his plane clipped some trees while taking off. Looking at the TV, the ultralight was under some high voltage power lines. I heard the fire dept. call for the local power company right after they arrived at the scene.
Thanks for the ping, kayak. I saw on the news there had been a plane crash but had the tv on mute and didn't know it involved our Lt. Governor.
I should have said heard it on the scanner.
My prayers going up for Andre Bauer, Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina and his family. God's protection and healing for Gov Bauer...God's comfort for the family.
Blessings,
trussell
If you want on/off my prayer ping list, please let me know. All requests happily honored.
Me too!
A plane owned by Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer has crashed near Blacksburg,
according to several state government sources. Bauer and another person
aboard the plane were taken by helicopter to Spartanburg Regional Medical
Center.
Sen. Jake Knotts, a close friend of Bauer's, said, "He's conscious and
he's speaking. He's alert."

Prayers sent...
No idea why people fly those things.
I did too. He was fantastic on Homicide.
Too bad "Thief" isn't that good of a series. ;)!
I flew ultralights for almost 10 years and did instruction in Quicksilvers. A little over 2000 hours. I elected to go through the USUA training program.
The reason people fly ultralights is they are fun. The average age in the sport is in the 50's. They are very safe if approached in a safety minded way as an any moving real sport.
LOL... you do need help... :-)
Speedy recovery prayed for.
Because they are fun. Or so I am told. I've always wanted to fly a plane but never got around. And yes I am scared witless at the idea, but a dear friend flies ultralights and says its wonderful... you are up in the skies with the birds, flying around, and the only sound you hear is the creaking sound of the ailerons and the rudder as you navigate the skies. Fly by wire, old school...
One should know, so they can express the appropriate amount of grief. I remember when JFK died, I was extremely upset because regular television programming was suspended until further notice, and I missed a movie I was planning to watch that following Saturday. I still remember the name of the movie, and I haven't gotten to see it since. It's amazing how that stuff has an impact on you. Even when you're only 11.

Who the hell cares?
Has to be one of the few Lt. Governor's on MySpace.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer was injured Tuesday afternoon when the small plane he was piloting crashed near a runway and caught fire.
Bauer, 37, was in good condition with injuries to his arm and leg, spokesman Dave Lucas said.
Bauer and a passenger, who was also injured, were conscious when rescuers found them, Senate Clerk Jeff Gossett said.
Bauer, a Republican, had flown to the area to visit a friend who had a death in the family, said state Sen. Harvey Peeler. The plane crashed on takeoff, Peeler said.
Aerial news footage showed the twisted wreckage of the plane on fire not far from the runway.
"We're awaiting more details," said Joel Sawyer, spokesman for Gov. Mark Sanford. "Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family."
The weather was sunny with light wind at the time of the crash.
