Why do I get this feeling in 20 years, a lot of our current troubles within the Church will be solved via attrition?
I wonder what St. Peter's reaction will be when one of these individuals shows up at the pearly gates wearing a rainbow sash?

Why do I get this feeling in 20 years, a lot of our current troubles within the Church will be solved via attrition? you have neglected to factor in the watered down, liberalized catechesis, dished out by some of these bishops over the past 40 years. In my RC diocese alone, 'acceptance' is the norm. It has been carefully doled out to several generations of catholics. In 20 years, they will be taking over.
