WASHINGTON - Two top CIA officials will bolster prosecutors' charge that Vice President Cheney's chief aide lied to them, court papers show. Prosecutors say disgraced Cheney chief of staff Lewis (Scooter) Libby learned CIA spy Valerie Plame's identity from, among others, agency officials who will be called to testify at his trial for perjury, false statements and obstruction of justice.
The U.S. alleges he learned about Plame from one of the CIA officials when he went after dirt on her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson. Wilson shattered a pillar of President Bush's rationale for war - that Iraq was seeking to build a nuclear weapon.

All Libby's lawyers have to do is get them to admit that they've spoken to someone other than Libby about Wilson's trip or discredit them by proving they spoke to someone else if they claim they didn't. One will do!

Grenier replied that Plame was an agent and "believed responsible" for arranging her husband's trip.So the CIA is admitting that Plame set up her husbands trip. Haven't Plame and Wilson been screaming differently for 3 years?

The CIA officials testifying is what caught my attention. The Daily News is left of the NYT, but what implications will this testimony have in the case against Libby? Lying to the CIA is not against the law, so I'm not sure it will have any.

Libby is charged with simple perjury and lying to the FBI. he has a DC jury demographically likely to convict any member of a republican administration. his case is not going down the toilet, given those realities.

no.
it was clear from the senate intel committee report on Wilson, that his wife got him the job. no question about it. even Wilson can't deny that. it was clear from day one, its even clear in Cheney's own notes on the copy of the NYT Wilson op-ed piece.
the reason you haven't heard much about that - is because the white house hasn't bothered to communicate these facts about this entire fiasco. and obviously, the MSM has buried information not helpful to their agenda here.

"No need to read past this partisan BS."
I didn't even get that far......
"Prosecutors say DISGRACED Cheney chief of staff Lewis (Scooter) Libby............... "
To: Carling
Good catch. Although the NY Daily Spews spins this as a negative vis-a-vis Libby.

Wilson shattered a pillar of President Bush's rationale for war - that Iraq was seeking to build a nuclear weapon.Re your question, "How important is this to the case?"
My answer is, I don't know, but the above article's assertion that Wilson "shattered a pillar of President Bush's rationale for war" is a baldfaced lie. If the article contains such a big lie, why should I believe anything else it contains?

Wilson shattered a pillar of President Bush's rationale for war - that Iraq was seeking to build a nuclear weapon. More lies from the press. Wilson's claims were proven to be false, so this sentence is a blatant, intentional lie from the author of this article.

I think it is and Fitzgerald is giving the old college try in getting Libby to plea guilty to at least one count by leaking all this "incriminating evidence" because if Libby's lawyers get Wilson and/or Plame on the stand and they get caught in the perjury trap then Plame's book deal goes down the toilet and people are going to question why Fitzgerald wasn't investigating Wilson/Plame more.

wondering if the writer uses the word "disgraced" when writing about Clinton?

Perhaps I've missed something but how does Libby's enquiries about how this collection of buffoons at CIA came to send "Yellowcake Joe" to Niger without a confidentiality agreement add creedence to any of Chicken-Fitz's charges?

"But subsequent documents allege Libby asked top CIA official Robert Grenier on June 11 why the agency sent Wilson to Niger to see if Iraq tried to buy uranium. Grenier replied that Plame was an agent and "believed responsible" for arranging her husband's trip."
So if this is accurate then we have a senior CIA official confirming to Libby what Joe Wilson repeatedly LIED about, that Valerie Pflame did indeed play a major role, perhaps THE major role, in arranging his trip. What is far more significant than when and how Libby first heard about Valerie Pflame is that Libby knew directly from the CIA about what a liar and fabricator Joe Wilson was/is. This goes against Fitzy's absurd claim that Libby and the WH were engaged in a 'smear' campaign, when Fitzy has info directly from the CIA which shows that Libby merely sought to correct the DISHONEST record which Joe Wilson had fabricated in the media. This WRECKS Fitzy's theory of the case and shows that Fitzy is a dishonest hack.
