There have been rumors/myths about someone inventing a vehicle that runs on water for decades. Most of these end with the inventor either being bought off or even killed by big oil.

...only in the movies. In real life, they end up getting sued and/or imprisoned for defrauding their investors. In 2006, for example, Dennis Lee (another "energy from water" con man making essentially the same claims as the guy in this article) is being pursued by the Attorney General in Washington. as well as AR ME ID KY TN VT OR CA WY and NM
