Excessive growth of government (spending) and abandonment of border control have been Bush's undoing as far as the Republican base is concerned. Both of these areas have been completely within Bush's control. Bush has sold us out, and he has only himself to blame (unless this had been his plan all along). Great, so let's bring on Speaker Pelosi, right?

Bush and the establishment Republicans have given the middle finger to the base for exactly the point you raised. I say, why $upport and vote for Republicans if all you get are Democrat (=socialist) policy? Bush and the establishment have sold out the base. Why, one can only wonder but never know. my guess is that they answer to the same master (and it isn't WE THE PEOPLE).
