Tom Tancredo warns America itself 'in mortal danger'
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | May 22, 2006

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo.

WASHINGTON – Two years ago, he was as lonely as the Maytag repairman – an obscure congressman trying desperately to raise the visibility of an issue he believed threatened the very security of the U.S.

More recently, he has become a force to be reckoned with, the leader of a powerful House caucus, a Republican who has taken on the president, a man respected for outspoken positions and the political force behind what has become the hottest issue in the nation.

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus and the undisputed heavyweight champion of the border security issue in the nation's capital, now tells the whole story of the threats facing the nation, the solutions within its grasp and his own personal quest to awaken the political establishment to the seething discontentment gripping America as a result of illegal immigration.

In his new book, "In Mortal Danger," published by WND Books, Tancredo warns that the country is on a course to the dustbin of history. Like the great and mighty empires of the past, he writes, superpowers that once stretched from horizon to horizon, America is heading down the road to ruin.

English historian Edward Gibbon, in penning his classic "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" (ironically published in the year America's Founding Fathers declared independence from Great Britain), theorized that Rome fell because it rotted from within. It succumbed to barbarian invasions because of a loss of civic virtue, its citizens became lazy and soft, hiring barbarian mercenaries to defend the empire because they were unwilling to defend it themselves.

Tancredo says America is following in the tragic footsteps of Rome.

Living up to his reputation for candor, Tancredo explains how the economic success and historical military prowess of the United States has transformed a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles of right and wrong into an overindulgent, self-deprecating, immoral cesspool of depravity.

His recipe for turning things around?

Without strong, moral leadership, without a renewed sense of purpose, without a rededication to family and community, without shunning the race hustlers and pop-culture sham artists, without protecting borders, language and culture, the nation that once was "the land of the free and home of the brave" and the "one last best hope of mankind" will repeat the catastrophic mistakes of the past, he writes.

Tancredo, born and raised in Colorado, represents Colorado's 6th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to his election to Congress in 1998, Tancredo worked as a schoolteacher, was elected to the Colorado State House of Representatives in 1976, was appointed by President Reagan as the secretary of education's regional representative in 1981, and served as president of the Independence Institute. He serves on the International Relations Committee, the Resources Committee and the Budget Committee, and is the chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. Tancredo and his wife, Jackie, reside in Littleton, Colo.

You tell'em, CF- it all depends on what the meaning of 'is' is- no wait, that was the other guy- it all depends on what the meaning of 'amnesty' is. Yeah, that's the ticket!

By you and yours alone. Show me the Denver Post or Fox News retraction.

There's nothing to retract. They never said what you, Dane, and the others who get off trashing a solid Conservative Republican (who has earned a 100% "Best and Brightest" rating from the American Conservative Union) say that it they said. The Denver Post itself reported that the illegal laborers committed document fraud against the law-abiding contractor. It also reported that the illegals came forward well after they did the work just to attack Conservative Republican Tom Tancredo because of his views on the border. Kind of like you guys attack him for the same stupid reason.

Of course, most of them are Catholics by birth, so I suppose, as fellow Catholics of mine, that's why they have no values.

So if they were Mormon or Baptist or Pentacostal, you would have no problem enforcing immigration law?

You may attempt to dismiss Mr. Buchanan as irrelevant, but he warned long ago about the invasion of illegal across our borders while our gov. turned a blind eye to the obvious.
He also hit the nail on the head when it came to trying to bring attention to our nation being "herded" down the wrong path, the wrong direction. You call him what you will, the truth is the truth, and it's there for anyone to see.

One positive thing to come out of this illegal mess is that finally the American public are getting their eyes open to the corruptness in our gov. and the people who are running it.

He worked for 12 years at the Dept. of Education. Talk about a career beaureaucrat.

Dammit! What is your point? Tell me how he could possibly vote better - more conservative - than he already is. Just because he was a school teacher do you think he votes more liberal on education issues? Obviously NOT as he has well earned his 0% rating from the NEA.

An amnesty is complete forgiveness thats not what is happening. Too many anything less than deportation is amnesty. This has conditions fines probation. If you must call it a plea deal that is more accurate

"The President is not supporting amanesty. People can scream amnesty all they want. Thats not what is happening.

Uh huh.....here is what a REAL conservative thinks:

""Bush has also apparently learned that the word "amnesty" does not poll well. On Monday night, he angrily denounced the idea of amnesty just before proposing his own amnesty program. The difference between Bush's amnesty program and "amnesty" is: He'd give amnesty only to people who have been breaking our laws for many years — not just a few months. (It's the same program that allows Ted Kennedy to stay in the Senate.)

Bush calls this the "rational middle ground" because it recognizes the difference between "an illegal immigrant who crossed the border recently and someone who has worked here for many years." Yes, the difference is: One of them has been breaking the law longer. If our criminal justice system used that logic, a single murder would get you the death penalty, while serial killers would get probation.""

Thank you, Ann.

"Tancredo is a lightweight and a loose cannon."

I remember when those exact same sentiments were made by Rockefeller Republicans about Ronald Reagan.

What you and other Rockefeller Republicans forget is that Tancredo speaks for the majority, just as Reagan did.
