Tom Tancredo warns America itself 'in mortal danger'

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo.

WASHINGTON – Two years ago, he was as lonely as the Maytag repairman – an obscure congressman trying desperately to raise the visibility of an issue he believed threatened the very security of the U.S.

More recently, he has become a force to be reckoned with, the leader of a powerful House caucus, a Republican who has taken on the president, a man respected for outspoken positions and the political force behind what has become the hottest issue in the nation.

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus and the undisputed heavyweight champion of the border security issue in the nation's capital, now tells the whole story of the threats facing the nation, the solutions within its grasp and his own personal quest to awaken the political establishment to the seething discontentment gripping America as a result of illegal immigration.

In his new book, "In Mortal Danger," published by WND Books, Tancredo warns that the country is on a course to the dustbin of history. Like the great and mighty empires of the past, he writes, superpowers that once stretched from horizon to horizon, America is heading down the road to ruin.

English historian Edward Gibbon, in penning his classic "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" (ironically published in the year America's Founding Fathers declared independence from Great Britain), theorized that Rome fell because it rotted from within. It succumbed to barbarian invasions because of a loss of civic virtue, its citizens became lazy and soft, hiring barbarian mercenaries to defend the empire because they were unwilling to defend it themselves.

Tancredo says America is following in the tragic footsteps of Rome.

Living up to his reputation for candor, Tancredo explains how the economic success and historical military prowess of the United States has transformed a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles of right and wrong into an overindulgent, self-deprecating, immoral cesspool of depravity.

His recipe for turning things around?

Without strong, moral leadership, without a renewed sense of purpose, without a rededication to family and community, without shunning the race hustlers and pop-culture sham artists, without protecting borders, language and culture, the nation that once was "the land of the free and home of the brave" and the "one last best hope of mankind" will repeat the catastrophic mistakes of the past, he writes.

Tancredo, born and raised in Colorado, represents Colorado's 6th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to his election to Congress in 1998, Tancredo worked as a schoolteacher, was elected to the Colorado State House of Representatives in 1976, was appointed by President Reagan as the secretary of education's regional representative in 1981, and served as president of the Independence Institute. He serves on the International Relations Committee, the Resources Committee and the Budget Committee, and is the chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. Tancredo and his wife, Jackie, reside in Littleton, Colo.

as to population control and the like.

A la Margaret Sanger? Please. As a former Catholic, I'm asking you to think like an American first. The American Catholic Church is beyond corrupt on many issues, not the least of which is illegal alien invasion.

He makes the point that flooding our culture with Illegals is a sure move away from that. Most of them have no respect for who we are at all. They only want to come here and make a buck.

Provide for their families is why they "make a buck." And most illegals simply work and go home. Of course, most of them are Catholics by birth, so I suppose, as fellow Catholics of mine, that's why they have no values.

Other than that they despise America.

We disagree about that.

"The vast majority of his career has been on the public payroll."

The same could be said for the rest of the political class in DC. I don't really see any relevance to this issue, aside from the fact that they may enjoy having a Mexican or two around for household chores.

I we live long enough, you and Dane may well eat the words you so disdainfully throw out about Mr. Tancredo and Pat Buchanan.

Buchanan is an anti-semite and totally irrelevant to any discussion currently underway in the United States.

We'll see about Tancredo. He is pushing a book, after all.

"He is just not Presidential material as some have suggested. Too "specialized."

Well Polly...I can see your point. We voters have always went for the "Movie Star" type to put in office to run our business. You know "big shiny teeth, with a city slicker grin...good talkers with a good head of hair, that say what we really want to hear,BIG,BIG promises and lots of vague and shadowy solutions that'll tickle the ears. But if one listens to the heart down deep he or she will know it as a sign or a check that "this guy is not right or he's real".

Most speak great swelling words and speeches of how great a nation we have (and America is all that)but it's just a smoke screen for what they are trying to cover up,.. their real plans and their ineffiency of...no plan!Except the fact that he'll be #1 man.

I believe the majority of voters have so stereo-typed our candidates for President of the US that it might be impossible to,in reality, elect one that would be a President For the People,By the People, and certainly not one Of the People. We really can do without a President that's not a lawyer and he doesn't have to be handsome, contrary to popular belief.Gotta go--have a good one--Bob

SPrry to but in on that question but I have been asked it before.

My answer to that is this. I think that many people simply dismiss folks like this as way out there due to their comments. Many think that most know better and the simple truth is that many do not.

When BS goes unopposed more people buy into it as being factual. KNow this, I have as much or more rsolve than folks that only seek to slam those they disagree with.

I think alot of folks are tired of the endless whining and the best way to make it stop is to oppose it directly wherever it is found. No matter how many times it takes.

Maybe I am crazy but I just cannot stand to see this same crap over and over go unopposed.

Way back, we finally got frustrated and quit talking to several people here. Maybe it's time to reinstitute this policy. A couple of people come here to disrupt quick enough to get the thread killed. This way not too many other posters see something they might get some education from.

It's all part of the plan because our socialism is unsustainable and the President and everyone in government knows it.

That's the facts Jack.

Also Tancredo is not all about Illegals which is all I hear about. He has made comments that we got to get the legal immigration under control too. What in the heck does that mean. I hate to find out

"Kennebunkport wasn't built through the sweat of 9 to 5 labor Dane."

"But it was built initially by labor in the private sector. "

Yeah, like Yalie Senator Prescott Bush was sweatin in the cotton fields. Dane implied Tancredo was an out of touch elitist. Well you open borders sorts can keep elitists like Teddy and the Bushs as your friends, I'll stick with Tancredo, Rush, Hannity, Coulter, Malkin et. al.

"And the inhabitants of Kennebunkport are upbeat and optimistic about America's future,"

No, they are upbeat about their position as a royal family. Any guy off the street would have vetoed more crap than Bush has, but the Kennebunkport elite need to seem nice. And come on now, Harriet Meirs was qualified only to serve coffee. Being upbeat about immigration means allowing 75 million more illegals in, some upbeat prescription that is.

" whereas Tancredo, making his living on the public dole, wants us all to defer to his moral judgments."

Seems like a lot of Bushbots want to force me to believe their moral judgments too. No thanks, I will believe Tancredo before you.

"No thanks. This country will not move forward by listening to the naysayers and gloom-and-doomers."

Sort of like on the naysayers on the Harriet Meiers affair. So, we should all go back to sleep because the King has spoken, and pointing out the peril of an invasion is inconvenient? Bah, that's just plain silly.

A good lot of them are dealing drugs, and committing crimes. You can visit them those kind in prison if you like. They make up 29% of the prison population. A bunch more live off from public assitance and drive up the price of Healthcare through the roof. They pay Zero. Of the ones that work...They pay no taxes unless they are using a fake SS#. Of course they are eligable for Free public money as well..Since they don't claim to have any of there own. Wake up to this sham before it is too late.

He also made a comment in response to a question about what the turnabout would be if a muslim terrorist entity detonated a nuclear weapon in this country.

He responded by saying basically Mecca would go bye bye.

Some really snapped about that. I guess they forgot that mutually assured destruction is a policy that served this nation VERY VERY well.

Tancredo has his head on straight and you should know that he already has alot of people ready to vote for him. You know why? Because people agree with him. Maybe you don't but alot do. Personally I cannot wait to see the votes count up in the not to distant future.

I welcome it. 300 million is plenty at this stage of our history. We are not heading for negative birthrates like the Europeans and the Japanese.

The more I read between the lines of your argument, I'm starting to realize why some folks are called "Papists."
