N.Y. Times Publisher Apologizes for Boomers
New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. told a college graduating class that he was sorry for his generations failure to achieve the goals it had set back when he was a college student.
"When I graduated in 1974, my fellow students and I ended the Vietnam War and ousted President Nixon, he told about 900 graduates of the State University of New York at New Paltz on Sunday.
"Okay, thats not quite true. Maybe there were larger forces at play.
"Either way, we entered the real world committed to making it a better, safer, cleaner, more equal place. We were determined not to repeat the mistakes of our predecessor. We had seen the horror and futility of war and smelled the stench of government corruption. Our children, we vowed, would never know that. "So, well, I am sorry.
Sulzberger, who became the Times publisher in 1992, urged the graduates to "know the world and "stand up for Americas democracy.
"None of you wants to be standing where I am 30 years from now, he said, "apologizing to the next generation of bright and shiny college graduates."

Still an idealistic nitwit after all these years.
Sulzberger is the proverbial flea floating on his back down the river on a leaf, masturbating and yelling: "Open the drawbridge!"
And instead of all this great 'change', they are responsible for the largest increase in entitlements in US history. They will single handedly bankrupt both Medicare and Social Security with their massive numbers and complete lack of attention to these inevitable problems. (Oh, and they managed to get us attacked by Al Qaeda by pretending that we didn't have enemies in the world so they could pretend that Reagan was just crazy).
He should be apologizing to the stock holders instead.
Well put!
IB4TZ??
He has plenty to apologize for.
He should apologize for the first Boomer President. Talk about corruption in politics!
My generation apologizes that it has Sulzberger as a member.
[tears welling up in my eyes]
The goals were to end America as a nation or an ideal.
