A Keller school district parent said political correctness has run amok at her daughter's elementary school, where the principal chose to omit the words "In God We Trust" from an oversize coin depicted on the yearbook cover.

Janet Travis, principal of Liberty Elementary School in Colleyville, wanted to avoid offending students of different religions, a district spokesman said. Students were given stickers with the words that could be affixed to the book if they so chose.

Michael Linz, a Dallas attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union, said the district's move was appropriate, sensitive and constitutional.

Of course it's Constitutional. There is nothing in the constitution that requires you to put "In God We Trust" on anything. That is not the question.

Now, if Michael Linz meant to say that including the "offending" words would not have been Constitutional, I think that is a far more tenuous proposition. I'm certain he was paid for his efforts with a pile of "offensive" money.

It reminds me of the former USSR making religious icons and entire people disappear from pictures.

Which "religions" would be offended about a generic statement about God?

Except Satanists and Atheists.

***wanted to avoid offending students of different religions, a district spokesman said. ****

In order not to offend a minority of people who dont believe in God, these people dont mind offending the multitudes. Its plain crazy.

What makes me ,and others like me such a target?
because we dont burn public buildings and file law suits. we dont fight back hard enough. In other words we put up with this kind of crap.

"Michael Linz, a Dallas attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union, said the district's move was appropriate, sensitive and constitutional."

You know, I find the actions of this school district HIGHLY offensive. When is the ACLU and their ilk gonna be sensitive to MY feelings?..... Dumb question, I know. This whole thing is stupid, just plain stupid, and not at all "appropriate".

The "feelings" of a very small minority totally outweigh the wishes of the vast majority. And if they can get a lick in against God, you can count on the ACLU being front and center. Anyone with an ounce of understanding about this country, and the history of the founders, KNOWS that God was never left out of the picture. Sheesh.

I wonder how these sensitive students of different religions cope with handling actual currency with the phrase "In God We Trust" on it?

The eye is the "Eye of Providence", a common representation of God in the 17th and 18th centuries. The pyramid has MDCCLXXVI, or 1776 at the bottom, and has 13 courses. The pyramid is deliberately unfinished, anticipating the fnord expansion of the US. The words "Annuit Coeptis" at the top translate to "He has favored our undertakings", and "Novus Ordo Seclorum" means "A new order of the ages", referring to (depending on whom you talk to) either a new, American chapter of history, or the upcoming Masonic world takeover.

"I find it hard to believe this happened in TX."

Shows you how low our expectations are... instead of you writing:

"I find it hard to believe this happened in the United States of America" we apparently have already written off the other 49 states.

Our public school yearbook actually has a picture of students with heads bowed in prayer. We also say a prayer before games. And to really tick off the ACLU and those homeschoolers who preach public school is evil, we have "Christmas Break" and "Easter Break" and decorate for Christmas. The band and choir have Christmas concerts. And we have a wall with relatives' stories who are in Iraq and other countries and when they come home, we give them assemblies.

IMHO, they got it backwards. Put "In God We Trust" on the cover and left the sticker cover it up.

Even better: poll the students and let them decide (yes, I know this is an elementary school).

Well, I'm offended!

This woman has no business being the pricipal of any school. I hope the locals run her out of town on a rail...
