A day in the life of President Bush (5/21/06): photos & news
WhiteHouse.gov & Yahoo News Photos ^ | 5/21/06

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush attended St. John's this morning, and GWB went for a mountain bike ride. The first couple also made a brief television appearance to congratulate the new Iraqi government. Here are the President's brief remarks:

THE PRESIDENT: The formation of a unity government in Iraq is a new day for the millions of Iraqis who want to live in freedom. And the formation of the unity government in Iraq begins a new chapter in our relationship with Iraq.

This morning, I called the President, the Prime Minister and the Speaker to congratulate them on working together to form the unity government. I assured them that the United States will continue to assist the Iraqis in the formation of a free country, because I fully understand that a free Iraq will be an important ally in the war on terror, will serve as a devastating defeat for the terrorists and al Qaeda, and will serve as an example for others in the region who desire to be free.

Pinging you to the Sunday Dose.

Thanks for this Sunday Dose.

This may be a dumb question but I've been wondering for a long time. I am familiar with the DOS command "ping", I use it frequently. But what does "ping" on the Dose do? How does it work? I just go to the Free Republic Home page to see if the Dose is up yet. I don't see how it is an advantage to get a ping.

Thanks, snugs. I didn't know she was at the same book expo. I remember the photos of her at the expo from the other day.

But what does "ping" on the Dose do? How does it work?

Ping lists are merely lists of FReepers who are notified when a given thread goes up. As soon as I and the other Dose custodians have a thread ready, we copy and past all the names on the ping list into the "TO" box when we do a reply post. Then everyone on the ping list will see it in their FR Pings. Hope I've explained this well.

Thanks for today's Dose, Wolfstar.

Here's a little more info on the rescued pups from Mississippi:

Biloxi Puppy Lift Via Air Force One

A clandestine smuggling operation is helping turn a tragic legacy of a natural disaster into a heartwarming Walt Disney tear-jerker. The stars of this thriller: puppies of abandoned dogs. The villain: Hurricane Katrina. The saviors: the president, his staff, and his jet.

On April 27, before President Bush toured the Hands On Network crisis volunteer center in Biloxi, Miss., the White House advance team E-mailed home that the prez would see a kennel with 17 abandoned puppies collected by the Humane Society and Triple R Pets. Staffers cooed and asked for pictures. Two secretly agreed to rescue one each when Bush traveled there.

On his visit, Bush told Hands On coordinator Erika Putinsky that he sympathized with families who lost dogs in Katrina. "He thought about his dog, Barney, and how upset he would have been if he lost his dog," she recalls. He snuggled a few pups. She said he was taking two home. He said no--unaware of the secret rescue mission. That was the cue for the two staffers to seize their dogs, Biloxi and Scrappy. First stop, Air Force One, where a now informed and supportive president ignored the howls. Then came the motorcade and, finally, the White House, where they were unveiled the next day. Aides swooned. Some pledged to rescue more when Bush visits the area again. "It made the White House a very happy place," says an insider.

Oh, thank you. I clicked on "pings" and found your #83 just now. I think I'll keep on doing it the way I am, so you needn't put me on your list.

"We are doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. This week has been very hard with my older brother dying last Sunday. Our granddaughter and her friend have our puppy over at their house. We have a 6 months old cockapoo. She is solid black and a bundle of energy. Our fence has not been delivered yet so they took her over there to get rid of some of that energy. They have 2 dogs and 3 cats so it should have been a very interesting afternoon for them."

Be strong dear (((***"MamaB"***)))"Everything will be well." thank you

Just recently directed to the "dose" by Snugs and this is my first visit.

I think Gretchen (?) is adding me to the ping list. I look forward to these threads and thank you for posting.

Snugs = One of my all time favorite FReepers, a treasure from across the "pond".

Thanks,
Chuck

Thanks for the Sunday pictures. May you have a good week, too, Wolfstar.

I love that picture of Andy Card. He looks like he couldn't go another minute on the bicycle. LOL!
