PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush attended St. John's this morning, and GWB went for a mountain bike ride. The first couple also made a brief television appearance to congratulate the new Iraqi government. Here are the President's brief remarks:

THE PRESIDENT: The formation of a unity government in Iraq is a new day for the millions of Iraqis who want to live in freedom. And the formation of the unity government in Iraq begins a new chapter in our relationship with Iraq.

This morning, I called the President, the Prime Minister and the Speaker to congratulate them on working together to form the unity government. I assured them that the United States will continue to assist the Iraqis in the formation of a free country, because I fully understand that a free Iraq will be an important ally in the war on terror, will serve as a devastating defeat for the terrorists and al Qaeda, and will serve as an example for others in the region who desire to be free.

Wow! It must be approaching eight hours of surgery. A few hours ago a hospital spokeswoman said surgery was almost complete.

Thanks. The time zone difference between here and the east coast messes me up sometimes. :)

You are probably not far out though because I am not sure whether it was 6 before or after the further hour they mentioned.

Snugs...first, let me say thank God for you. You have no idea how much I value your sweet, kind manner, some days more than others.

Anyway, I found this article nearly two hours ago. It's after 8:00pm back east now, and there's been no further updates as far as I know. Hopefully, they are just getting the horse through the post surgery recovery before making any further public statements.

Forgive me for not linking this: http://tcm.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=33665

Mary Cheney was at that Book Expo though I think on a different day

Mary Cheney, daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney, hands a signed copy of her new book 'Now It's My Turn' at BookExpo America 2006 at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, Saturday, May 20, 2006
