I don't know the music business but seems to me that if your goal is to limit your audience and play to a small group of cool people only you won't be around very long. Business is business. I don't care how many producers and record company executives agree with your rants the bottom line is money. If you don't make the record execs money you don't make records.
I doubt the record execs are too impressed at being on the billboard top ten cool people chart.
