"I'd rather have a small following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith," Maguire said. "We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do."
I don't know the music business but seems to me that if your goal is to limit your audience and play to a small group of cool people only you won't be around very long. Business is business. I don't care how many producers and record company executives agree with your rants the bottom line is money. If you don't make the record execs money you don't make records.
I doubt the record execs are too impressed at being on the billboard top ten cool people chart.

Sheesh!....they just don't know when to shut-up, do they!
With Maquire and Robinson's remarks piled on, they keep digging themselves even deeper!
Now they'll have Reba McEntire's fans mad at em too.....!

For band member Martie Maguire, the controversy was a blessing in disguise. Yeah, if you call reduced album sales and radio play a "blessing".

They had a song that was popular; what, 10 years ago? I didn't know that they were still around.

Both excellent suggestions, but I had something more, uh, emphatic in mind.....

When one relies on negative press to have any press, one might do well to think it through. BUT, I still wouldn't be interested in this shameless unenlightened little RED hen.

"We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do."What you said is dead on. What a stupid thing for Maguire to say. I have no problem not buying their stuff. It wasn't that good to begin with.

I quit reading Time a long time ago because it was so left leaning and biased. Putting the Ditsie Chicks on the cover of Time and letting the loudmouths rant just proves that the magazine is a MSM dying outlet of information that is not to be trusted.I suspect that ol' "Time" is dying. My father-in-law died last year and his subscription to "Time" moved to our house (until it expires; he must have had a multi-year subscription since it keeps a'coming). I notice that that rag is much, much smaller than it used to be (I can remember it from some 20 years ago), indicating that the publisher is running short on ads and likely, "reporters" to put out their "news stories."
Can't wait until they try to get me to renew the subscription.
P.S. Oh, by the way, copies go straight from the mail box to the trash can.
