(AP) NEW YORK The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines apologized for disrespecting President Bush during a London concert in 2003. But now, she's taking it back. "I don't feel that way anymore," she told Time magazine for its issue hitting newsstands Monday. "I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever."
As war in Iraq loomed, Maines told the London audience: "Just so you know, we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."
The remarks led to death threats and a backlash from other country stars, including a high-profile spat with Toby Keith. It also stalled what until then had been the group's smashingly successful career.
Bandmate Emily Robinson said she knew right away the remark wouldn't be taken lightly and got "hot from my head to my toes."
"It wasn't that I didn't agree with her 100 percent; it was just, 'Oh, this is going to stir something up,'" she told Time.
For band member Martie Maguire, the controversy was a blessing in disguise.
"I'd rather have a small following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith," Maguire said. "We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do."
The Chicks' hits include "Landslide," "Goodbye Earl" and "Wide Open Spaces." Their new album, "Taking the Long Way," is due out May 23. The first single is "Not Ready to Make Nice."
Good luck with that. Nice that your keepin it real after collecting all those country fans money.
These hags don't know when to put a sock in it do they?
They ain't so fresh now, they gotta be the `Dixie Hens' now.
No more cheeping--clucking. Cluck what? No, cluck you, Nate!
Cute pug. Natalie should be so lucky.

Sounds like a DU'er.
They don't care that the rest of the world views them as total nuts; they'll just keep drinking that koolaid and screaming about it out loud. Everybody else is whacky, not them.
How insulting... to pugs. They're so ugly they're cute... pugs that is! The other one is just ugly to the bone! I dont think the pug would lick her even with a bone around her neck!
I posted this on the other thread :
One of the GREAT lines from "Larry The Cable Guy":(paraphrasing a little here, but real close):
Larry: "...and The Dixie Chicks....what's that little fat one's name....Natalie??? She needs to shut her mouth, and go back to her job as a sales clerk at Lane Bryant..."
The Dixie Chunks
When the hatred is pathological, not much in the way of reason is going to prevail.
This is a "woman scorned". And the source of all the scorn heaped upon her was, obviously, George W. Bush.
Even though he probably had never heard of her before she made her first lunatic outburst.
Which just may have been simultaneously with her first concert appearance with the Dixie Chicks.
They just step in slop and step in some more.
BFD
And who woulda thunk that the umm, "larger" girl in a otherwise cute girl group would be the one to go looking for even more attention?
Yeah, big surprise, that one.
they should have named their CD : Taking the Wrong Way
>>We don't want those kinds of fans.
No problem / Wish Granted (Grin)
Did I hear this morning that they have now come out with a rock album? Country radio has more or less quit playing them since their rant in England.
