Balanced Associated Press Headlines
Ive noticed ,for quite some time, the Associated Press seems to feel the need to balance good news from Iraq with (often unrelated ) bad news.
For example, todays newspaper headline on Iraq read like this:
Iraq Parliament Oks National Government
Attackers kill 33, wound dozens
Articles that might be construed as favorable to the Bush administration seem to receive similar treatment as per this wholly fictitious, but hardly atypical balancing act.
Stock Market Closes on All Time High
Demand for Bush impeachment grows
The Associated Press claims to be impartial , but seems to wear Democratic Party membership on its sleeve : big time !
For example , AP ran this story today:
FBI Searches Offices of LA Congressman
There was quite a write-up about how intrusive the search was, about how badly the Congressmans rights and privileges were being trampled, and what his attorney thought of the whole thing; but one had to read 7 paragraphs to discover that Rep. William Jefferson is a Democrat, serving his 8th Congressional term.
Can you imagine what the headline-and accompanying story would have looked like if Mr. Jefferson had been a Republican ?
While were imagining, try to imagine what would happen if some arch-fiend were to place a sinister,mind-altering drug in the drinking water at Associated Press : thereby converting all the staff to a rigidly Conservative Republican point of view. What might the AP headlines look like ?
Lets start with coverage of UN affairs:
Kofi Annan Announces New Program
UN peacekeepers accused of child rape
How about national politics ?
Hillary Clinton Announces Presidential Bid
Prominent Democrat collapses with heart attack
Just for the record, I dont want to see news-gathering organizations influenced by any political party or philosophy .I just want honest, unbiased reporting in my newspaper with all editorials identified as such, and carefully confined to the Opinion pages.
( I should live so long ! )
Other media sources take their cues from AP. Even the Fox Report led with the story of a new government in Iraq (worth all of 10 seconds) amid continued violence (the rest of the segment).
My local paper is owned by Lee Enterprises, which has an uncomfortably close relationship with Associated Press. The only breath of fresh air is an occasional Kathleen Parker or Cal Thomas column. If I had an option for local news, I'd take it in a second. I see AP under a headline and I don't even bother to read the article.
Exactly.

Be civil, but don't back down. Editors won't buy trash it's going to generate complaints.
See to it that such AP stories no longer have a market. AP sells them to exist, they'll notice the drop. Whether the realize that BIAS=LAYSOUFFS is their problem.
There's no doubt that, by and large, the AP is a political group.
AP has an hourly news recap which goes out over the wires, which makes its way verbatim into radio newscasts on virtually all news radio stations, and then eventually the days predominant stories from that wire summary get picked up by virtually every newspaper in America.
SOP for the Associated Press is to present stories and headlines which are favorable to democrats, as news. Just like that. Such as the latest press release from the food police, or whatever global warming nonsense someone holds a press conference on, that day.
On the other hand stories which are potentially favorable to Republicans, are (always) presented with an opposing quote, or something to leave a question mark. Once the potentially favorable news is covered - there's always a "liberal on the street" quote refuting whatever was just presented, or a press release by some opposing leftwing group.
Same exact thing with Associated Press' use of the labels "conservative" or "liberal". Conservative views are always labeled as such. Liberal views are almost *never* identified as being liberal. The reason of course is that 89% of journalists are liberals, and see views which they agree with, as mainstream.
A lot of the MSM uses these two techniques. It's noticable in virtually all AP "news" fluff.
AP = Ass Pansies...
