"Balanced" Associated Press Headlines

“Balanced” Associated Press Headlines

I’ve noticed ,for quite some time, the Associated Press seems to feel the need to “balance” good news from Iraq with (often unrelated ) bad news.

For example, today’s newspaper headline on Iraq read like this:

Iraq Parliament Oks National Government

Attackers kill 33, wound dozens

Articles that might be construed as favorable to the Bush administration seem to receive similar treatment –as per this wholly fictitious, but hardly atypical “balancing act”.

Stock Market Closes on All Time High

Demand for Bush impeachment grows

The Associated Press claims to be impartial , but seems to wear Democratic Party membership on its sleeve : big time !

For example , AP ran this story today:

FBI Searches Offices of LA Congressman

There was quite a write-up about how intrusive the search was, about how badly the Congressman’s rights and privileges were being trampled, and what his attorney thought of the whole thing; but one had to read 7 paragraphs to discover that Rep. William Jefferson is a Democrat, serving his 8th Congressional term.

Can you imagine what the headline-and accompanying story would have looked like if Mr. Jefferson had been a Republican ?

While we’re imagining, try to imagine what would happen if some arch-fiend were to place a sinister,mind-altering drug in the drinking water at Associated Press : thereby converting all the staff to a rigidly Conservative Republican point of view. What might the AP headlines look like ?

Let’s start with coverage of UN affairs:

Kofi Annan Announces New Program

UN peacekeepers accused of child rape

How about national politics ?

Hillary Clinton Announces Presidential Bid

Prominent Democrat collapses with heart attack

Just for the record, I don’t want to see news-gathering organizations influenced by any political party or philosophy .I just want honest, unbiased reporting in my newspaper – with all editorials identified as such, and carefully confined to the “Opinion” pages.

( I should live so long ! )

Other media sources take their cues from AP. Even the Fox Report led with the story of a new government in Iraq (worth all of 10 seconds) amid continued violence (the rest of the segment).

My local paper is owned by Lee Enterprises, which has an uncomfortably close relationship with Associated Press. The only breath of fresh air is an occasional Kathleen Parker or Cal Thomas column. If I had an option for local news, I'd take it in a second. I see AP under a headline and I don't even bother to read the article.

Call your local paper in which the stories are run, ask to speak with the "wire editor". If they don't have a dedicated wire editor, ask who selected that story and speak with them.

Be civil, but don't back down. Editors won't buy trash it's going to generate complaints.

See to it that such AP stories no longer have a market. AP sells them to exist, they'll notice the drop. Whether the realize that BIAS=LAYSOUFFS is their problem.

Several years ago I compared phrases in the search engine the AP website archives - such as "Right Wing" vs. "Left Wing", "Conservative legal group" vs. "Liberal Legal Group", etc.

There's no doubt that, by and large, the AP is a political group.

AP has an hourly news recap which goes out over the wires, which makes its way verbatim into radio newscasts on virtually all news radio stations, and then eventually the days predominant stories from that wire summary get picked up by virtually every newspaper in America.

SOP for the Associated Press is to present stories and headlines which are favorable to democrats, as news. Just like that. Such as the latest press release from the food police, or whatever global warming nonsense someone holds a press conference on, that day.

On the other hand stories which are potentially favorable to Republicans, are (always) presented with an opposing quote, or something to leave a question mark. Once the potentially favorable news is covered - there's always a "liberal on the street" quote refuting whatever was just presented, or a press release by some opposing leftwing group.

Same exact thing with Associated Press' use of the labels "conservative" or "liberal". Conservative views are always labeled as such. Liberal views are almost *never* identified as being liberal. The reason of course is that 89% of journalists are liberals, and see views which they agree with, as mainstream.

A lot of the MSM uses these two techniques. It's noticable in virtually all AP "news" fluff.

And of course, the President never announces a new initiative (unless Democratic): he defends the "controversial measure"...

AP was recently caught faking a news story about homosexuality, and one has to seriously ask why would they go so far as to jeopardize their journalistic reputation and integrity, to take such a reckless risk at running a fake story and possibly being caught redheaded (like they did)?

The only credible answer I can think of is that AP is run by a bunch of homosexuals, who when it comes to President Bush obviously have a personal ax to grind because of the President's religious beliefs that do not advance the homosexual agenda.

Here is the news story of AP being caught trying to advance the homosexual agenda (their agenda) with a fake news report:

STOCKHOLM, May 10, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A US researcher has called to task the Associated Press for misrepresenting a scientific report on homosexuality. On Tuesday, May 9, the AP ran a story saying that a group of Swedish researchers had evidence showing that the brains of lesbians "react differently to sex hormones than those of heterosexual women".

These findings, AP concluded, "add weight to the idea that homosexuality has a physical basis and is not learned behaviour". A key plank of the homosexual political movement's agenda is that the condition is physical or genetic in origin and therefore cannot be changed, treated or controlled and must be accepted as normal.

SNIP
Dr. Warren Throckmorton, a researcher and Professor of Psychology at Grove City College, found AP's assertions suspect. He wrote to Dr. Ivanka Savic, the leader of the Swedish team at the Stockholm Brain Institute, who confirmed his suspicions. She wrote that AP's conclusion is "incorrect and not stated in the (research) paper." In fact, Dr. Savic confirms that in her team's paper, she specified learning as a possible answer to the cause of homosexual inclinations.
