I am sure that American Moslems are more tolerant than those in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. But that is largely because the Saudi and Pakistani schools preach intolerance and hatred, while the American public schools don't . Who knows what is taught in the American Islamic schools. Not to mention Black Muslims and Farrakhan.

I can see why Farakhan would gravitate towards Islam.

The ones I know weren't taught in American schools. They just grew up in a more secular society than those in places like Saudi Arabia and Iran.

You can tell the difference between Shiites and Sunnis when you've been around them a long time, too. Socially, the Sunnis here are more openly laid-back. The Shiites who aren't fundamentalist are a little more reserved about things, but most of them don't have religious hang-ups. I have met a few who do, though. And they maintain distance with us. They're polite, but you can tell they're not friendly towards us.

Farakhan preaches hate toward the white race. Just check out the nation of islam website. It actually calls for "the elimination of your (white) destructive species." Of course the white race was "genetically engineered" by blacks thousands of years ago. Sounds far-fetched but it's on their site.
