I don't know how prevalent THAT was, but I suppose that it was common enough to have become an accurate stereotype..
In my case it was different; he was not a big man, but he was in superb condition. I don't think he flirted with the girls... He hated them, he hated weaklings (as I was way back then) and only barely tolerated the sports heroes of the school... and then only when they performed to perfection. He beat the crap out of them if they lost a game even worse than he beat us smaller kids.
Maybe they should have let Ronald McDonald run the class.
