Don't know if they were blaming his performance... the report just was that he bled.

Where was the Hunter Pace? WE did several in MD this year.

"are Brother Derek's connections blaming his performance on bleeding? "

I have no idea. I just heard that he "bled profusely". I didn't hear a reaction from his owners or trainer.

What a tragedy. At the time of this race, I was walking my dog and feeding the neighbor's horses. I'm so sad and at a loss for words about this injury to Barbaro.

We are not going to get any more news until the surgery tomorrow. He is in a stall all bedded up by now.

We should have gone and pulled him straight out of there, but we were all laughing too hard to stand up.

We did go and get the mare out after a few minutes, before she kicked the boy in a fit of pique.

Yea, my thought is that mabe the Lasix caused his bleeding. I hate that dang stuff. I wish it was illegal.

Shamrock Hounds in Floyd County, GA. We also ride in the Shakerag Hounds Hunter Pace. Our trainer usually has a trailer or two full going, and we tailgate and have a good time.

It was such a sad end to a good day. Barbaro broke down about 50 yards in front of me. I started yelling he had broke his leg. My whole section watched Edgar Prado try to control the horse instead of watching the race. We didn't even have a clue who won.

As the ambulance drove by, I could see Barbaro's head through the window...a good sign...then he kicked the wall of the ambulance so loud I thought the whole track could hear it.

Why do you want Lasic disallowed? I have often thought it masked an imperfection and lead to reduction in the breed. But that is just an off the cuff thought. Many people seem to think it helps a lot.

Hunter paces are fun but x county is better. I really wanted to do steeplechase but I was a mother and could not really take the risk of a group of horses running over me if we took a fall at a fence

Thanks!

I did find a shot of her in the distance as we were warming up waiting for our start time. You can see her profile a little better. Sloppy canter though.

Such a strange day. I watched this happen yet still don't know where Bro-Derek finished. So intent on watching Barbaro. Seen this way too many times...I don't care if the horse is worth $5,000 or $60 million, it's heartbreaking.

I bet the mood was pretty somber there.

As I said above... I feel a little sorry for the winner. He won a race today, and no one wants to talk to him.

I ride whatever's going, basically, but not steeplechase (we might canter in a week after everybody else finished . . . )

I do like some of the obstacles on X country. My mare treats anything solid with GREAT respect and jumps it with plenty of air. You can feel her eyes pop as she measures something built out of dirt and telephone poles. Although the only refusal I've ever had on her was the first time she approached a "coffin" -- she thought it looked downright sinister. Of course, so did I - there's something about that gaping hole in the ground - and she probably caught the hesitation from me.
