Track VET reporting a significant injury to the right hind ankle...must calm the horse and let him get settled. They will then tranquilize him to get an xray. The Vet is saying, speculation of course, that it could be career ending, but not for certain until xrays...

JUST saw another replay, it looked like a broken ankle.

It was his ankle. He was running on the side of it. Putting all his weight on the ankle bone

I really don't want to speculate, but- having been a fan of horse racing for 25+ years, this absolutely does not look good. I just said a prayer for Barbaro.

Oh God......... I hate this kind of thing. I feel awful.

This is why....... I must be honest....... I'd rather they not race horses...... ever.

I always feel like this kind of thing might happen. Their legs look so fragile.

This is just terrible.

I spotted it right away, when they showed him waiting on the track for the horse ambulance. I would be surprised if they can save him. They'll try, and there have been wonderful advances in veterinary medicine. But that's a potentially life-threatening injury.

I had 8 (Bernardini) and 3 (Hemingway's Key) along with 6 (Barbaro) in my Triple Box. (Sigh). I just hope Barbaro's OK. Being a stud horse isn't a bad life either.

I am praying he will not have to be put down --- send him to stud and reward him with numerous "virgins."

It looks like he has fractured one of the bones in his fetlock/pastern. His hoof was flopping wildly when he was pulled up and when he was standing waiting for the ambulance. The fact that he will not put any weight on it at all speaks volumes. Horses' hooves simply do not move like that normally. What a shame.

This is why....... I must be honest....... I'd rather they not race horses...... ever.

When I was a young girl and even into my 20's, I loved horseracing. I saw it through the romantic heart of a young girl. Then Ruffian shattered her leg in that match race at Belmont and I got physically ill. My interest in the sport began to go downhill after than, and now I rarely watch a horse race.
