Vandals topple King of Swing

GRUENE,TX (AP) - Vandals toppled a wooden statue of the King of Western Swing. Now he has to wear a sling.
"We came in (Wednesday) morning, and he was laying on his back with his arm broken off," said Clair Devers of the Lone Star Music store in Gruene, home of the 8-foot-tall carving of Bob Wills by local musician Doug Moreland.
The music store and a radio station offered a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest. The vandalism apparently happened early Wednesday and could not have been accomplished easily.

I live in Upstate NY and I have danced in Gruene (oldest continuous dancehall in Texas). This is really a shame.

You've got that right! I recently went to my mother's in MO to help her move to a retirement center and found an old box of my long-ago deceased Great Uncle's stuff in the basement and there was a personally autographed black and white 8 X 10 photo of Bob Wills in there. A real treasure! It is now hanging on my wall in the Texas Hill Country, where it belongs : )

Dear little Gruene, which used to just be the dance hall and the river cafe with the deck on the Guadalupe for the canoe take-out point, is *big city burb* now. Something like this was bound to happen sooner or later.
Somebody just got carried away with the Bob Wills Stomp ... a bad somebody.
