WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate blocked an effort on Thursday to limit Social Security benefits for illegal immigrants who would become permanent residents under a sweeping immigration overhaul being debated by lawmakers.
The Senate immigration bill would give millions of the estimated 11 million to 12 million illegal immigrants in the country a path to citizenship as long as they pay a fine and back taxes and meet such requirements as learning English.

The entire meltdown of this president--for whom I campaigned, even shaking his hand--will continue until he commits himself to upholding our laws. I don't expect anything but a continued waste of time by the RINOS and libs in the Senate, but of this president, I expect a forceful end of the sham and rewards for lawbreakers. Mr. President, your oath of office means something. Stop breaking it so flagrantly with your euphemisms and sudden urgency for the euphemistic "comprehensive" needs of the country.

It really lies with the House. Will they fold or will they refuse to Conference and hold for enforcement first. So far it's only been the admin/Senate that have caved, minimially, but slightly there. Keep up the calls. No Conferencing this bill.
The bottomline is that Business has the money, but the people have the votes. The Senate has sold out to business. They deserve to lose, business cannot manufacture enough votes for them if the base shows its finger to them.
Will the House call the People's bluff, or will they risk Business' anger? If I were them, in this new medium wheressroots activism can rival the monetary contributions in terms of elective success, I'd keep my people happy and call the bluff of business.
If this isn't amnesty (for Identity Theft), I don't know what is.
But I'm sure Dubya and the Senate has some Clintonian word-games to
play with this topic.

You know, I'm seriously to the point where I think I need to just sit down and have a huge, shoulder-shaking, chest-heaving cry over this. My country is leaving me. It's killing me.
And I am probably one of the most positive Freepers you will find on this site; an upbeat Crunchy Capitalist Conservative who sees all she's worked so hard for (and her 20 years of military service) being flushed down the toilet.
I've never understood people that are pessimistic, but this is really starting to grind me down. I'm not ready to give in completely, though. That's my one Saving Grace. :)
As President Bush said, a "Good scrubbing" is in order in our House and Senate. I plan on making that happen in '06 and '08.

It's hitting me hard now. For one thing, I'm having to deal with a school district that cares more about the kids of illegals than it does my kids (when I pay tons of tax dollars).
I'm sick of seeing Spanish everywhere.
I'm tired of going to fast food restaurants and the workers getting the order wrong because they can't speak English.
I long for what our country was like during the Reagan years (of course he did grant amnesty back then).

But I've decided to support the House Republicans; they put enforcement first.
And I read Michelle Malkin and listen to Laura Ingraham, they have both been rocks on this issue.
It is a criminal offense but not a felony as presently incorporated in Section 1325. The House Bill increases the maximum penalty for illegal entry from one year to one year plus one day, upgrading the violation to felony status. The House Bill also extended the reach of 1325 to aliens already residing in country.

Yes, those two do help. But GAWD...what IS it that our Congress doesn't understand on this issue? It's enough to make a gal want to stockpile dry socks, canned food, bottled water and lots of extra ammo.
And I used to think those type of people who "feared their government" were the weirdos! ;)

Many of them don't pay a dime into the system but they still get to collect Social Security. Many of them bring their parents (who never worked a day in this country) here and their parents can collect Social Security, not to mention get free medical.
It's a scam, a budget buster, and an injustice to the people who obey our laws and have for years put money into Social Security and will probably never get any of it back themselves.

I'm afraid that what our government is doing is flooding our nation with the type of constituents they want. We aren't the type they want. We're generally independent. We have jobs. We don't need government beyond the most basic services. Governments like dependent classes, because someone is more prone to tolerate abuses from government if they depend on that government for goodies.
In addition, we respect the system of limited government our founders gave us. The reason America has been so slow to embrace socialism (as have so many European nations and Canada) is that we were founded by independent type people who dislike big government. We're also more resistant to secularism and social liberalism because we are more religious and understand that immorality leads to bigger government. As Tocqueville said, America is great because America is good.
Our leaders want to replace us with people with no emotional or intellectual attachment to America as it was intended to be. They want multi-culturalism, where traditional American values are eventually swamped by competing values. Latin Americans may be good people as individuals but they come from lands with little tradition of self-government, and where coups and revolutions are frequent. Government is understood to be powerful by many of them, not limited, as we see it.
Our government is slowly replacing its traditional constituents with new constituents more to their liking. Constituents with more socialistic leanings, who are willing to accept powerful, centralized government as the norm, and are dependent heavily on that government, and who have so many varied religions and traditions that government must become ever more secular and licentious to maintain "separation of church and state".
According to the warped moral priorities of some on these boards, EVERYTHING a person does after sneaking across the border becomes a crime, even if it is working for a living just as normal Americans do.
Vote all these bums out. Rich, spoiled, vote pay raises themselves. I'm a registered R and happy to see PA wants that neocon New World Order nut Santoni out. These people in office now want a no border world. Hello everybody out there. Turn off that one eyed cycloups. Fair and Balanced my butt. Jeez...
Wrong. If they pay in they should get back just like any other human being does.
