SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- BellSouth Corp. (BLS) has sent a letter to USA Today and the newspaper's parent company, Gannett Co. (GCI) , demanding the retraction of a story which said the phone company shared its customers calling records with a federal spy agency, according to a Thursday report in the online edition of the Wall Street Journal. The letter demanded that the newspaper retract the "faults and unsubstantiated statements" in the May 11 article, which said BellSouth and some of its rivals shared bulk calling data with the National Security Agency, the Journal said. The story ignited a firestorm about government intrusion into consumer privacy and led to lawsuits against BellSouth, Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) and AT&T Inc. (T) . A phone call to BellSouth wasn't immediately returned
This is a joke. There is an agreement between US brittan and I think austrailia that they monitor each others citizens and then pass on the info to the respective country.
USA Yesterday has been a lying, spinning and mantra printing whore of the DNC for decades.
They have been caught with their appendages big time with this latest lie.
Hopefully, BellSouth Corp. (BLS) will sue the pubisher of USA Yesterday, the editors and the lying lunatic Marxist who pretended to be a reporter.
For over a decade, when I check into a motel, hotel or inn where the USA Yesterday is supposedly delivered free to the door of our rooms, I have refused the newspaper and asked for a refund. Sometimes I have gotten a refund.
Every traveling Republican should make this a standard practice when checking into any room. If the newspaper is still delivered, bring it to the manager and tell him no "USA Yesterday" because it is a lying fishwrap and dangerous to America.
Sounds like a nice DNC type (false) rumor, Unless you can post a verifiable copy of this so-called agreement, me thinks you are full of ............
Is Dan Rather secretly working (under an assumed name) at USA Today? It sure looks like his work.
Look up eschelon. It has been around since before 911. It was rumored that Clinton used it to give his big money donors business advantage by providing them with Company plans, Bids, etc and basically sold it to the highest donor.
There are even lists of words that the computer sweeps that will record your call if you mention them on the phone......
I will accept that you are merely uninformed rather than accusing me of working for the DNC.
The media thinks "freedom of the press" means freedom to lie. USA Today owns several papers and TV stations:

Sigh......
I spent 20 years working with the NSA while in the Navy.....yes echelon exists, but you are smoking dope if you think the computer capacity exists in the world too record every phone call in U.S. that may elicit even one code word. Reality never seems to deter the tin foil hat crowd.
Heheheh doesnt record every call smarty...
