Lonsberry:CONSERVATIVES MUST CAN CANNON [Cannon has a solid conservative voting record]

CONSERVATIVES MUST CAN CANNON

Let’s take Chris Cannon down.

He’s a congressman from Utah. A Republican, sort of, five terms, the president’s “point man on immigration” in the House.

Let’s flush him.

Let’s show the Republican Party, the Congress and the president that we mean business. They’ve screwed with us. Now let’s screw with them.

Here’s the background.

Chris Cannon is the brother of the Utah state Republican chairman. They’re a millionaire family. And for 10 years Chris Cannon has represented the Third District of Utah.

It is one of the most conservative areas in the United States. It is also an area very hard hit by illegal immigration. Communities that were once some of the safest in the nation now deal with urban gangs comprised almost entirely of illegal aliens.

And Chris Cannon has carried the president’s immigration water in the House of Representatives.

Which means he’s soft on illegals.

In fact, Chris Cannon is the author of the Student Adjustment Act, which would not only give illegals amnesty, it would also make them eligible for in-state college tuition and it would let them pay that discounted tuition with federal grants.

That doesn’t seem very smart.

But it’s what Chris Cannon proposed.

And this is a season of accountability.

As conservatives search for ways to bring the Republican Party to heel, Chris Cannon is a target of opportunity. We’ll only get their attention if we take down one of their own, and Chris Cannon is the most likely target.

See, he’s got a primary.

On June 27, Chris Cannon will be side-by-side on the Republican ballot with a newcomer named John Jacob. Last Saturday, at the GOP’s Utah nominating convention, delegates preferred the challenger they don’t know to the congressman they know too well. On the second ballot, John Jacob had 52 percent of the vote and Chris Cannon had 48.

That means there’ll be a primary.

And that primary has to be first blood in the battle to humble the Republican establishment.

Given the district’s heavy Republican enrollment advantage, the winner of the primary will be the winner of the general election. That means that kicking Chris Cannon out won’t put Nancy Pelosi in charge of the House, it won’t endanger anything of importance to Utah, it won’t hurt the country.

But it will let the Republican deep thinkers start their summer with a bloody nose. It will show in capital letters that the Republican mismanagement of Washington – particularly the abandonment of conservative principles and the failure to protect the country from illegal immigration – is something rank-and-file Republicans will not tolerate.

Chris Cannon’s opponent – John Jacob – is an earnest and honest man. Conventional wisdom is that Chris Cannon – with all that Washington special-interest money – will tear him apart. But then, common wisdom is that nobody can beat a five-term incumbent in a convention of the party faithful.

But Chris Cannon’s tenure has been such that, after a decade, he had done nothing to earn the loyalty or support of the most ardent Republicans. Instead of easily turning away a no-name challenger, Chris Cannon was defeated by him.

And that can happen again.

It must happen again.

Chris Cannon must be sacrificed on the altar of political reform. Patriotic, principle-based, Constitution-believing Republicans have to fire him. We must show the Republican establishment that the people own the party and expect it to keep its promises.

So how do we do it?

Republicans inside the Third District of Utah must organize themselves in support of John Jacob. They must endorse his campaign and make sure they and their friends to vote for him.

Patriots from outside the Third District of Utah – from all across the country – must financially support the John Jacob campaign. Those who are close enough to go to the district and volunteer in the John Jacob campaign must do so.

To send a message to the president.

To send a message to the Congress.

To send a message to the party.

That it’s time for Republicans to be Republicans. That it’s time for politicians to keep their word. That it’s time for the people to run the party.

And it’s time for those who fail to serve and defend our country to be thrown out of office.

Starting with Congressman Chris Cannon.

He is the author of the illegal-coddling Student Adjustment Act. He is George W. Bush’s point man on immigration in the House. And that’s reason enough for him to go.

We’ll take this one down in June.

And that’ll put the fear of God in the rest of them for November.

The Republican primary is the safe place to change bums out and to at least make a huge statement.

Who ever wins the primary though, that is who you have to vote for over the Democrat.
Don't anybody do anything stupid like not vote or vote third party in the main election, all you'll get for that is a Democrat in power.

Best of luck!

OK...
John Jacob on:
Immigration

First, we almost certainly don't need another task force to backburner this issue. Ronald Reagan said, "There are no easy answers, but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right." The right and simple answer is to obey our laws. We wound our national conscience when we ignore the law. Let's first be true to ourselves, which will compel us to set to the work of crafting reasonable immigration laws that protect our security, strengthen our industry and prosper our economy.

Did he say that during the signing ceremony for his amnesty plan?

Will this be another let's-get-David-Drier joke?

Who is John Jacob, and why should anybody vote for him?

And, Chris Cannon hasn't been re-elected because he's done nothing for the district.

Sounds like a fool's errand.

===

That is not always the right answer either. You, living in CA, know that in some cases, if you defeat the electable Republican in the primary, you are ceding the seat to the Democrat.

True, we would have issues if it were an unelectable type. But, Maybe the challenger doesn't have issues like McClintock and maybe this is a good person.

Anyone here know if the challenger is electable if they make it to the big game?

THe incumbent is always in the best position to beat the opposition. To defeat an incumbent Republican, a pretty decent one at that, and substituting him with an unknown, inevitable gives advantage to the Dems.

This is not a game, we have to play to win.

FIRST get a supermajority of Republicans in Congress, THEN pick off the RINOs, when that won't jeopardize Republican majority.

WRONG! It has to be the other way around, unless you want to give up the country to the Dems.

I would agree and I am not an expert on who the primary challenger is.

Is the primary challenger a winner or just an unknown far right candidate?
Are they known?
Are they electable?

All good questions.
All need to be pretty positive answers before anyone should take down an incumbent.

Interesting. He's a fat, bald guy like Cannon.

Quoting Ronald Reagan on immigration is dangerous, especially since Reagan granted unconditional and immediate amnesty to four million illegals in 1986.

"reasonable immigration laws that protect our security, strengthen our industry and prosper our economy."

That surely wouldn't prompt me to support him. It's so vague it says nothing. Just generic political dung.

Great to gt rid of a Bush toad. But the replacement needs to be a straightforward person of substance.

Chris Cannon voted for the House immigration bill. JD Hayworth voted against it along with Boehner and 15 other Reps. What's up with that?
