WASHINGTON - A Pentagon probe into the death of Iraqi civilians last November in the Iraqi city of Haditha will show that U.S. Marines "killed innocent civilians in cold blood," a U.S. lawmaker said Wednesday.
From the beginning, Iraqis in the town of Haditha said U.S. Marines deliberately killed 15 unarmed Iraqi civilians, including seven women and three children.

I agree that Murtha and others' motives are suspect, but *if* it is true that Marines killed unarmed women and children then that is very very disturbing.

OK, what do we have to do to get Murtha's "former Marine" status revoked? He's turned his back on everything he ever stood for in that uniform.

From what I have heard the label "Former Marine" is a derogatory one. Marines are Marines for life.

The Marine Corps issued a statement in response to Murtha's remarks:
"There is an ongoing investigation; therefore, any comment at this time would be inappropriate and could undermine the investigatory and possible legal process. As soon as the facts are known and decisions on future actions are made, we will make that information available to the public to the fullest extent allowable."
Murtha held the news conference to mark six months since his initial call for "redeployment" of U.S. forces from Iraq.
He said U.S. forces were under undue pressure in Iraq because of poor planning and allocation of resources by the Bush administration.

I had heard "ex-Marine" was the derogatory version, and they preferred "former." I have nothing but respect for the real Marines, but Murtha has lost whatever claim to respect he ever had from 30 years in the reserves.

I was willing to cut this guy a lot of slack because of his military record and because people said he was patriotic.
But something "turned" him to the dark side. He is anathama to me now.

There is not a lot of time to sit and ponder any situation.

I agree that Murtha and others' motives are suspect, but *if* it is true that Marines killed unarmed women and children then that is very very disturbing. So I suppose the thing to do is to assume it's true and start crapping on the Marines until they prove otherwise.
Murtha is squealing with delight like a piggie coming to dinner. I'm not going to join him. Are you?

IF, and that's a big IF... IF these troops actually committed these crimes, they should be strung up and hung out to dry. The real crime here is Murtha trying them in the press and assuming their guilt.
To: tobyhill
Even if this account turns out to be true, what in the world is Murtha doing bringing this up at a news conference if there is an ongoing investigation? It almost seems he wants it to be true and will get credit for the revelation. This guy is revolting.

Here's a story about a
real Marine. And from Murtha's part of the country even.

I'm praying Diana Irey can retire this POS. I can't vote for her but I can help financially and I hope many here at FR will do the same.
