MIke Pence ping
The way things are going....and the schizo minds of many Republicans, especially in the Senate...
I have a feeling that by this time next year, Pence's name may be the only candidate for POTUS that is CLOSE to what conservatives want.
Hopefully, c-span will record and show Pence's speech at the Heritage Foundation.
Thanks for the ping, Gip.

Hmmm......Pence/Tancredo 2008 or Pence/Coburn? Could this be the season for a VIABLE 3rd party? I'm so sick of sending ahem, CONSERVATIVES to the Congress and have them acting like anything BUT when they get up there!:(
Pence is as good as it gets. But I wonder if he has the charisma to win.
Newt can win. He's perfect on immigration and that will vastly overcome whatever baggage he may have. Newt/Pence would be great.
I'd like to hear arguments from anyone who thinks Newt is too damaged to run.
I like Newt, in fact, I like him a lot.
But a lot of Christian conservatives point out that he is a serial adulterer. Alas, that is true and that is no small negative in my mind, nor in the minds of social conservatives.
Pence has none of the baggage that Newt has. He is the only legitimate conservative in the Reagan tradition (ie, no snarl). My fear is that he won't run this time.
Some day he WILL run...this is obvious just as it was obvious that starting in 1966 Reagan was going to run. What we need to do is make sure that when he runs, he has an army that is like Reagan's in 1976 ALMOST unstoppable, and then in 1980, was in fact, ACTUALLY unstoppable.
The paralells between now and the early '70's are too great to ignore. We are now the party of Gerald Ford. But that is going to change. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Thanks for the ping Gipper! Mike sounds better and better.

The country needs this man as President!
"Goldwater in '64!"
"In your heart, you know he's right."
/'60s flashback
Do you know any specifics about his adultery?
Only that he is on his third marriage (I think) and this one is to a former staffer (I think) who was on his staff while he was married to his second wife. In addition, I don't think that his first divorce was all that amicable, either, because of the presence of another woman.
That's my understanding, but if that is not correct, I welcome someone to set the record straight.
Newt is too damaged to run. Newt doesn't have a base. Newt is the architect of the Impeachment in many peoples minds and will never get over it. Newt left his dying wife, blah, blah, blah. Lately hasn't Newt been buddying up with Hillary? Newt is too intellectual to be a good leader. He gets caught up in academic trends. Newt had to pay one trillion dollars in campaign fines while being put in a pillory by the House Ethics Committee. Newt resigned in disgrace, over something. The Contract on America failed. It was ruled unconstitional by judges.
This is what will be said.
