Many Republicans and some media outlets are praising the immigration proposals outlined by President Bush. But some conservative leaders warned Tuesday that the administration's insistence on a so-called "guest worker" program for illegal aliens could cost the GOP control of Congress later this year and that the alleged arrogance behind the proposal could put a Democrat in the White House in 2008.
President Bush's plan, explained in a nationally televised speech Monday night, included a "guest worker" program for illegal aliens and the use of National Guard troops along the border until more Border Patrol agents can be trained and deployed.

The problem is that the GOP has drifted so far to the left, that there really isn't much difference between the GOP and the Dems, except that the Dems spew hate.

GOP control of congress is on the gallows, whether the lever gets pulled or not depends on whether or not we are sold out yet again.

I personally won't shed any tears if people like Chafee and Dewine lose. I'm thoroughly convinced that the people will vote for the most anti-illegal candidate across the country, including my own state of MA. Because to be pro-illegal means that you talk in circles, ignore logic and the law, and just plain don't give a damn what happens to the country.
Eggshell walking congressmen and senators should lose anyway.

God as my witness, if this AMNESTY program goes through under "R" controlled congress and Senate, I'll never vote Republican again.
This is beyond DISGUSTING !!!

Viguerie rejected the notion that Democrats, if they regained control of Congress, could do more damage to the conservative agenda than a less-than-supportive president. "We can't go through life living as if the 'boogey man' is going to get us, which is what the big-government, left-of-center Republicans are always saying," Viguerie said. "We're just sick of that, and I'm just tired of that, being treated like a child ... I've been hearing that all my life." As for conservatives' ultimate 'boogey man' in the coming presidential election, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), Viguerie rejects that threat, as well. "We won't have lost this country if Hillary becomes president," Viguerie concluded. "It will be those who have betrayed and lied to their supporters. They will bear the responsibility, not those who were true to their principles."BINGO!

I was hoping that I wasn't the only one who was starting to feel this way.

A little rearranging of the text helps the article greatly.

I'm voting Democrat for the first time. I know they'll fix the immigration problem. I'm tired of waiting on Republicans.

I really like the hispanic people in general, but what they're are proposing for our country is; "An accident looking for a place to happen".
Fact is, we have been sold out, so where are we to go from here?

I feel the same. If the President said that a fence was being built immediately and that employers of illegals would would prosecuted, he/they/we would not be in this predicament. I hate to think like this, but maybe losing is what is needed. A little short-term pain may be worth the long-term gain if it brings the Republican party back to its senses. They have to earn my vote; it isnt automatic.

What a ridiculous statement. There are a lot of great conservative Republicans in the House, and a handful in the Senate. Let's not tar everyone elected official in the party because of a group of RINOs. The problem is that the "moderates" in our party have sold us out.

Bush should have addressed this honestly two or three years ago. He put the country at risk. The only way to avoid invading Mexico to fix that country is to offer a Marshall Plan -- get big business behind it, with the US footing most of the bill. Just wait. It's coming. After that, we end up doing the same for the rest of the hemisphere, so get a second or third or fourth job. You'll need it.

They've already shucked any semblance of leadership, so why wouldn't the natural consequences take hold?
