Moldova going to quit CIS after Georgia and Ukraine
[ 12 May 2006 15:35 ]
Moldova is also going to quit the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) following Georgia and Ukraine.
APAs Eastern Europe bureau reports that Moldovan deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Andrei Stratan stated that the government is ready to discuss pro-opposition fraction parliamentarians proposal to quit the CIS.
In March this year, some parliamentarians from Moldova Noastra (Our Moldova) opposition alliance proposed to annul the treaty between Moldova and the CIS. The proposal was submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers for deciding whether it needs to be discussed in the parliaments plenary session. Mr.Stratan said that the initiative is being analyzed by the government. He also noted that the state authorities are expected to express an opinion on this issue. In this case the proposal will be confirmed and submitted to the legislative body again.
Head of parliament commission for foreign policy and European integration commission Serciu Stat accused pro-opposition parliamentarians of blaming the authorities in having bad relations with the CIS and then taking the initiative to quit the CIS.
All of the three countries-Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova, which initiated quitting the CIS, are GUAM alliance (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) members. Azerbaijan has not yet expressed any opinion on the initiative to leave the CIS. /APA/
I blame Yoko.
They would be pretty much isolated from the other members if Ukraine would quit.
Naw, they want to sponge off the EU.
