Republicans Vote Against “Secure-First” Approach.
May/16/05 | Screw Boll

Posted on 05/16/2006 11:38:57 AM PDT by screw boll

A republican senator proposed a bill that will prohibit the granting of legal status, or adjustment of current status, to any individual who enters or entered the United States in violation of Federal law unless the border security measures are put up front. I9n other words: secure the borders first! The bill failed passage in a 55-40 vote. The Republicans that voted against this measure along side 36 Democrats and one Independent are as follows: Bennett (UT) Brownback (R-KS), Chafee (RI), Coleman (MN), Collins (ME), Craig (ID), DeWine (OH), Graham (SC), Hagel (NE), Lugar (IN), Martinez (FL), Murkowski (AK), Shelby (AL), Snow (ME),Specter (PA), Stevens (AK), Voinovich (OH), Warner (VA)

Instead of attacking only Bush for his moderate speech, the Conservative base should vote-out of office and attack these Republicans who block any progress in the Senate.

Seriously, is there anyone who can rationally explain why these R's voted like this?

Am I just incredibly stupid and missing something here?

Agreed. Norm Coleman on this list surprised me. Why did McCain not vote? Is he dodging the issue?

Can someone post the details of the bill so we can actually see what was voted on and not just a title.. for all we know, there was some bad wording in the bill or a rider that made it useless or bad.

Funny, notice the states where they are from.... see any SW states? Notice how the states that are disproportionally effected by Mexican illegal immigration are all for security first.

Yep--why would we want to sit home and toss out conservatives? Better to work to get rid of Libs in the primaries.

Which of these is up for re-election?

Yeah better if Freepers just scream nonsensical slogans and perpetually whines then actually get SOME solutions in place. So much better to sit on our Freeper butts and squeal like pigs daily then get anything actually done about the problem. Then in a couple of years we can really feel all morally superior when we can come here and squeal endlessly about the 40 Million illegals instead of actually getting something DONE NOW.

The bill was against the Presidents position. The Democrats voted in support of the President position. I assume you join in with the Democrats and the President against border security?
