Mexicans irritated by Bush's plan for border troops
Seattle Times ^ | 16 May 2006 | Hugh Dellios

Mexicans chafed Monday at the notion that President Bush wants to send National Guard troops to help enforce the U.S.-Mexico border, even as President Vicente Fox tried to downplay the seriousness of the move.

[. . .]

"It's worrying," said Arturo Solis, an immigrant-rights activist in Reynosa, across the border from McAllen, Texas. "The bad thing is that the American government is insisting on confusing immigration with a criminal problem."

The move reminded some historians of 1913, when President William Taft sent troops to the Texas border. Mexico was in the midst of a chaotic revolution, and Taft was warning Mexican generals and rebels not to harm U.S. interests south of the border.

The U.S. Army invaded Mexico in 1916 after revolutionary Pancho Villa and his men raided the border town of Columbus, N.M.

[. . .]

Some criticized Fox for appearing to acquiesce to Bush's Guard plan. Some saw an ulterior motive — that Fox wants to help Bush persuade Congress to pass a wider immigration overhaul before Mexico's July 2 presidential election, which would allow Fox to claim success and help his party's candidate, Felipe Calderon.

I am beginning to suspect that it is only the "safety valve" of shipping millions of poor Mexicans to the United States that keeps Mexico from another revolution. The corruption can continue, and those that steal from government coffers can continue to do so, because there is no incentive to improve the operation of the economy with millions of working-age men and women missing.

Senor Fox presides over what from all appearances seems to be ethnic cleansing. If Jorge wasn't so busy turning the other cheek he would recognize this.

What Mexico does is Mexico's business, as long as it does not affect us. When we're subject to the dumping of millions of uneducated third world gardeners, then it becomes our business. It's an invasion by any measure, and should be dealt with appropriately. Get your house in order, Senor Fox, or we can do it for you. If we're going to have 50+ million Mexicans as US citizens, we may as well have the real estate to go with it. (and the oil.)

Also, notice he said "reduce" not stop illegals.

The only way you are going to stop all illegal immigration if if you make the U.S. into some shithole nobody wants to come to anyway. I'll pass.

The irony is that despite all of his pandering to them, Mexicans, both in Mexico and in the United States, seem to hold Bush in contempt.

¡Well, Señor, since the Mexican government seems to think that illegal immigracion to Mexico a criminal problem, then we Gringos see nothing wrong with making it a criminal problem in the USA, too!

¿Comprendes?

The party hacks will loose control of the base on the issue of illegal immigration. If the republicans loose control of the house and they will, Bush will be impeached. Middle class Americans will not be contributing to his defense fund nor will they be out picketing on his behalf. Unless la Raza and lulac show up to protest the impeachment of Bush the same way turned out to tell Gringos to leave the country, the republican party is over.
