Bush immigration speech: Key quotes
bbc ^ | 5/16/06 | bbc

Posted on 05/16/2006 1:54:23 AM PDT by wotan

The following are key excerpts from President George W Bush's televised speech on immigration:

"We must begin by recognizing the problems with our immigration system. For decades, the United States has not been in complete control of its borders. As a result, many who want to work in our economy have been able to sneak across our border, and millions have stayed... Yet we must remember that the vast majority of illegal immigrants are decent people who work hard, support their families, practice their faith, and lead responsible lives. They are a part of American life, but they are beyond the reach and protection of American law."

Ah, the PeeWee Herman "I know you are but what am I" retort. You sly dog, you.

This from the guy who can't answer a simple challenge to cut and paste and prove I said the things you claimed I did?

Your FReeper name sure does fit.

Here is the post you claim talks about James Bond tactics:

Thank GOD in 5 years none of those terrorists who've snuck in through the southern border have been able to cobble together the cash for a single terrorist attack. Budget problems, you know (not due to Bush drying up their funding, of course, it's just another coincidence).

What part of "Where does this say a word about James Bond tactics" can't you understand? And please, point out where I say anything about "ignoring the most obvious security measures"...

Oh, wait, I was taking you seriously. You're just one of those silly flamers who doesn't actually discuss issues but comes on here to whine.

LOL Thanks for the chuckle. You kids and your free time! Now go back to that show you mentioned, Pee Wee Herman? Have fun watching that, now. (chuckle) Kids...

It's not my fault you are too dull to understand a simile.

I haven't responded to this point, because it would be like pointing out to you there is no "s" sound in "debris."

There is no need for a WOT if there is no need to control of the borders.

While I would never consider leaving Calif, I do wonder sometimes what it might like to live in other parts of the country that have yet to 'feel the warm wind on their shoulder'.

California has always been a trendsetter state. Events happen here long before they effect the rest of the country. The demographic/political/economic/crime wave that has already swamped CA has hit AZ and is moving inland. One day too, you or your grandchildren will feel its effects.

In the meantime, keep re-arranging those deck chairs and mocking those that have issued the clarion call.

The first WTC in '93 and OKC in '95 are two on American soil. There were others on American interests overseas.

WOw--lame dodge of lame dodges, since I never addressed anything that could be called a "James Bond" tactic! LOL!

Laaaaame!

I haven't responded to this point, because it would be like pointing out to you there is no "s" sound in "debris."

LOL!!!! Please, please keep it up, I haven't had this much fun with one of you mewling SAVAGE!Weiners in a long time. What inventive backpedalling! LOL!

If you spent some time thinking of the issues instead of lying about other people's posts so you could feel tough, you might not look so silly. But you don't, so you do.

You go watch your James Bond movies and Peewee Herman tapes, seems to be about your level. LOL! ("Simile", wow, took you that long to come up with a comeback and you had to resort to poking through the online dictionary? LOL)

Thanks for the laughs, this is fun.

Hey guys; if the three of you can just hang in there a little while longer, keep bashing the Prez and the Pubbies, stir up as much hatred for W and the GOP as you can; come '08, Hillary gonna save us all. HALLELUJAH!!!

(Sarc.)

It's a shame one has to include "Sarc." into a post that should be so obvious but for the dummies out there...................

Yes, those of us who aren't bashing the President and support the House bill are just re-arranging the deck chairs, while those who have "issued the clarion call" (???) are being mocked, boohoo.

Bush has had the same position for six years, so pardon me if I don't care for these self-congratulating "clarion callers" who are only now claiming THEY were on top of this issue all along.

Hold your opinion but please, stop twisting the beliefs of those who don't freak out in a tizzy when the MSM tries to create a wedge issue that's been sitting idle for six years. (Oh, yes, I know YOU have been there all along...of course...)

Echoing a blogger on tonight's speech:

So, were you people calling for Reagan's impeachment over his amnesty program?

OMG, you too? Another remedial civics student? It's not Bush's choice to make in terms of which laws to enforce. His political stance is not the same thing as his constitutional duty. Enforcement is an executive responsibility.

If that's what you want to be considered, OK...

It's not Bush's choice to make in terms of which laws to enforce. His political stance is not the same thing as his constitutional duty. Enforcement is an executive responsibility.

Now I see why you consider yourself a student.

Bush has upped funding and boots on the ground--facts.

His "political stance" is in reference to the reactions to his views--you apparently also need remedial grammar.

Enforcement is what he's been doing. It hasn't been solving the problem so the House bill is necessary, with some changes, I expect.

Remedial enough for you?

Dude, get a clue!! Before you start lumping us all together as Bush-bashers, allow me to educate you. I voted for GHW Bush to be Prez. I voted for W to be Gov. of Texas - TWICE!!! I voted for W to be Prez - TWICE!!! I voted for HIS brother Jeb to be Gov. of FloriDUH - TWICE!!!! So, if I'm a Bush-basher, I've earned the right.

Frankly, I have a STRONG disagreement with Bush's position on this issue. He is condoning law breakers and wants to reward them with citizenship. Try this on for size - guy comes into your house uninvited and starts sleeping on your couch, eating food out of your refrigerator and telling you to pick up more milk after he has drunk the last of it. Do you want (A) the police to come in and arrest the guy for breaking into your house and stealing from you, or do you want (B) the police to award him half ownership of your house and tell you that you just have to live with the situation?

We have situation A already with the invaders. Bush wants to resolve it by giving us situation B.

We are contantly being told that we are a nation of laws, NOT MEN!!! The President of the United States of America is charged with seeing to it that the laws of this great nation are enforced, and he's NOT doing his job!!

As one of his employers, I haave the right to call him on the carpet about it!!

Meanwhile, enjoy the carpet-bagger sleeping on your couch.

Ah, one of those folks whose education on this issue comes from the MSM's coverage.

All is clear now.

If you spent some time thinking of the issues instead of lying about other people's posts so you could feel tough, you might not look so silly.

So exactly what is the administration doing to prevent saboteurs from coming across the border? You make much of the fact there haven't been any more 911s, but you can't cite anything in particular besides "over there."

Personally, I think it's kinda goofy to wet your pants about the phrase "James Bond tactics" when there isn't anything overt you can point to. Seems like a pretty natural progression to me, but then you've already demonstrated a rather limited facility with the written word, so maybe I shouldn't expect so much from you.

I can say DITTO to the first part of your reply above. I have worked for and voted for W a total of four (4) times. I'm just having a hard time figuring out how you voted for W for Governor twice and his brother Jeb for Governor twice. I guess you moved back and forth between Texas and Florida, huh? How many other Governors have you voted for in the past 10 years?

I've been as hard on the President on this issue as anyone. But, my goodness, cut the guy a little slack. He's in a lose-lose situation. What do you want him to do? Bomb Mexico?

BTW, I'd be willing to bet a month's salary that you have not been victimized and suffered at the hands of illegals in this country as badly as my family and I have. I'm the one who has earned the right to bash the Prez on this issue. If you only knew.

I've lost confidence in him.

I'd say clean house in light of the "passing intelligence to the mexican government," but that presupposes the administration is lying, and you no doubt disagree with that supposition.

What I want him to do is restore my confidence in his administration as a bulwark against the spineless congressional republicans.

So...there HAVE been more 9-11's over here since 9-11?

You're just boring, is all.
